Agree with all of this. The underrated risk in pair trading is emotional attachment to the short leg. Alts don't just trend, they gap. One headline and your short leg teleports 25% against you with zero chance to react.

Realized vol blows through anything your position sizing assumed. If you're not rebalancing on stdev bands and capping single name short exposure, one event can erase months of carry.

Basket the short leg. Always.
