Amid Floods and Landslides

At the westernmost edge of Indonesia, Aceh is once again facing a profound humanitarian challenge. Relentless rainfall has caused rivers to overflow and hillsides to collapse, triggering widespread floods and deadly landslides. What was once land of livelihood and shelter has turned into waters of uncertainty and slopes of fear.

Entire villages are submerged, roads are cut off, and access to basic services has been severely disrupted. Landslides have buried homes, blocked evacuation routes, and isolated communities in urgent need of assistance. Children are forced to grow and learn in temporary shelters, while parents carry the heavy burden of protecting their families amid constant anxiety each time the rain falls again.

Aceh is a resilient land, shaped by faith, endurance, and a long history of survival. Yet resilience alone cannot meet the scale of this disaster. Local capacities are stretched to their limits, while urgent needs continue to grow—clean water, food supplies, medical services, emergency shelters, and psychological support for those who have lost homes, livelihoods, and loved ones.

International assistance at this critical moment is not merely an act of generosity—it is a powerful expression of global solidarity. Every contribution brings warmth to displaced families, healing to the injured, nourishment to the hungry, and hope to those standing on the edge of despair. The presence of the international community sends a clear message: Aceh is not facing this crisis alone.

Beyond immediate relief, Aceh also needs sustained international support for recovery and resilience-building. Reconstructing homes and infrastructure, restoring livelihoods, strengthening disaster risk reduction, and preparing communities for future floods and landslides are essential steps toward long-term safety and dignity.

From a land now soaked by rain and tears, Aceh reaches out to the world. Let us stand together in compassion, rebuild together in solidarity, and ensure that no community is left behind in the face of disaster. When Aceh suffers, humanity is called to respond.

Hikmah di balik cobaan
Menguji keimanan: Ujian adalah cara untuk mengukur seberapa kuat dan teguh iman seseorang dalam menghadapi kesulitan hidup, baik itu kesulitan harta, jiwa, maupun masalah lainnya.
Membersihkan dosa: Cobaan dapat menjadi sarana bagi Allah untuk menghapus dosa-dosa hamba-Nya. Ketika seseorang bersabar menghadapinya, dosa-dosanya akan diampuni.
Meningkatkan derajat: Setiap ujian yang dihadapi dengan sabar akan mengangkat derajat seseorang di sisi Allah, seperti yang tercantum dalam hadis yang menyebutkan bahwa besarnya pahala sejalan dengan besarnya cobaan.
Menunjukkan kasih sayang: Cobaan bisa jadi merupakan bukti cinta Allah kepada hamba-Nya, untuk membersihkan diri dan mendekatkan diri kepada-Nya.
Menguatkan mental: Ujian hidup dapat membentuk seseorang menjadi lebih tangguh dan kuat dalam menghadapi tantangan di masa depan.
Mengeluarkan potensi: Dengan adanya rintangan, manusia akan ditantang untuk memaksimalkan kemampuannya dan mengeluarkan potensi terpendam yang ada dalam dirinya.

Flash Flood Strikes Dayah Ummul Ayman Samalanga, Losses Reach IDR 5 Billion

Bireuen, Aceh – The Dayah (Islamic Boarding School) Ummul Ayman Samalanga in Bireuen, Aceh, was hit by a severe flash flood for three consecutive days, starting from Tuesday, November 25, to Thursday, November 27, 2025. The disaster was triggered by relentless heavy rain and the overflow of the river near the dayah complex, causing extensive damage and estimated material losses of up to IDR 5 Billion.

The peak severity of the flood occurred on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, where the water level was reported to have reached 170 centimeters between 08:00 AM and 12:00 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). Dayah Ummul Ayman, which houses approximately 3,500 students (santri) and teachers, faced an onslaught of strong currents, resulting in an emergency situation.

Non-structural material losses are estimated to be in the billions of rupiah. The physical damage caused by the flood is devastating. Approximately 1/4 of the Dayah Ummul Ayman complex's land was reported to have fallen into the river due to severe bank erosion. Essential facilities such as bathrooms, toilets, and the laundry building were among those scoured and lost to the current.

The flood caused the damage and loss of many valuable items, including:
*Office equipment and computers
*Student chairs and study desks
*Wardrobes and mattresses in the dormitories
*Dayah kitchen equipment
*Various personal student belongings
The total estimated material loss amounts to IDR 5 Billion.

Following the receding waters, the main challenge faced by the Dayah management and its thousands of students is meeting pressing basic needs. Dayah Ummul Ayman urgently requires assistance for:
*Food supplies
*Electricity (restoration or generators)
*Clean Water
*Internet access for communication and recovery coordination
