🤦Mind the skills gap
“60% of the workforce in battery production facilities is made up of production staff, maintenance and engineering technicians. Production roles typically require level 2 or level 3 qualifications, with maintenance and engineering technicians typically being developed to Level 4/5.
“The remaining positions within the gigafactory are highly skilled and require degree qualifications, such as systems engineer, database development engineer and thermal management engineer, which would require a very high level of skill and qualifications” #Nissan
Nissan has called on UK Gvt to do more to significantly expand electric vehicle and battery manufacturing plans, in evidence submitted to the @HouseofCommons hearing this week.
Some fantastic insights from Nissan, seeking to invest £13bn over next 5 yrs
The best bits:
⛏ critical mineral supply chains are, well, critical
“for businesses to have the confidence to invest in the UK, it is crucial that ongoing access to supplies is secure.
“Positive market signals will be important in maximising the investment attractiveness of the UK and government support to establish raw materials supply chains and explore domestic exploration will attract investment in this field, which we are starting to see with the creation of @green_lithium , @CornishLithium etc.
“Localising critical raw materials exploration in the UK will support UK battery manufacturers to reach the necessary levels of regional battery content in future free trade agreements, unlocking export opportunities.” #Nissan
The potential of your #lithium industry has not been fully realized and won’t be for years. Focus on supporting #Argentina ‘s competitive advantage in Li not an industry like batteries where you have no manufacturing advantage. @GerardoMorales
"Howard Klein at RK Equity, expects more deals are coming, driven by needs of battery makers looking for #lithium to meet growing demand for #EVs. “$ALB & $LTHM are looking internally & saying, ‘We don’t have enough. We need to make investments ” https://t.co/1twJ3mZZ2g @cenmag
Not that it matters as much as people love to obsess about it but almost everyone in 中国 is (in unison) calling the #lithium spot bottom. The more important point - Global average price will be HIGHER in 2023 than 2022.
“UK at the moment doesn’t have a strategy, doesn’t have a runner in this race”, Benchmark’s CEO @sdmoores

🎥⚡We are in the midst of a global battery arms race.. and Westminster is now finally listening 🇬🇧
🎥Hear how it went from @sdmoores of @benchmarkmin@green_lithium are positioned to play a leading role in how the UK take advantage of the energy transition. 🎯

Now we are in front of a general rebound of #lithium prices with carbonate and SC6 prices already increasing almost exponentially, while hydroxide and lepidolite prices quickly approach and surpass the levels attained one month ago. Converters in #China are in trouble.
