The great lie of “school choice” is that there is no master plan. No secret solution. Just defund, demean, and destabilize public education until vouchers are more palatable. Then drain vouchers until - poof - it’s the 18th century market driven education once again. #OklaEd
It’s unfair, but the medical profession in #COVID19 is now getting a taste of the disrespect that #txed educators have had to endure for decades.
We must recovery the community’s high esteem for our servant heroes: doctors, nurses, police, firefighters, teachers. #txlege
TASB President Jim Rice sent a letter to Gov. Abbott asking him to provide flexibility to schools:
• School boards should be able to require masks in schools in response to local health conditions
• Districts should be able to provide a virtual school option, with funding (1/2)
NEW: I asked @GovAbbott if he'll give Texas school districts the ability to enforce mask-wearing now that the CDC has recommended everyone in the K-12 setting wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status.
Here's how the Governor's press secretary responded:
@alcaprari23@GovAbbott Thank u for asking the question. Abbott’s response is laughable 😂 claiming he believes in personal responsibility, but continues to arrest nonviolent Texans who smoke Cannabis (a plant 🪴) in the privacy of their own home. All while allowing anybody 2 carry a loaded weapon. 🤦🏻♂️
Let our communities decide how to keep our students safe! Help #TeamTSTA tell Gov. Abbott to rescind his prohibition on local control of mask requirements. https://t.co/MRT8KcqPfc!

I know we’ll likely get a lot of no’s and Democrats are more likely supporters, but we should 100% start asking every single Republican candidate about Universal Basic Income & Healthcare.
The worst that they can say is no and you’re just back to opposing them again as planned.
A fundamentally broken system rewards Jeff Bezos, the world's richest guy, with another $78 billion — more money than any one person could ever need — while Amazon workers work at breakneck pace in grueling conditions with no hazard pay and no paid sick leave.
I just sent a letter to my lawmakers asking them to support the 5.4 million school children in Texas public schools. Join me in speaking up - send your own letter today. https://t.co/H1eT5wzKHI
