We have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of the body of a woman in Stanley Park, Liverpool, yesterday, Friday 28 August.
We were contacted by a member of the public at around 5.25pm. Officers attended and sadly found the body of the woman in the area of the walled garden.
Enquiries remain ongoing to identify her and inform her next of kin.
A postmortem took place today, Saturday 29 August. The results of the postmortem have been withheld for investigative reasons.
An investigation is ongoing and CCTV, witness and forensic enquiries are in the process of being carried out.
Preliminary enquiries suggest the woman’s body could have been there for a number of weeks.
Detective Superintendent Rachel Wilson said: “We understand that this will be distressing and worrying for people to hear and I want the local community to be reassured that we are doing everything in our powers to find the person or persons responsible and bring them to justice.
“We have carried out a number of lines of enquiry, including examining any missing people reports in the Merseyside and wider area, but at this stage we have not been able to identify the woman and would ask for the public’s help by coming forward with any information.
“We know she is a white woman, aged in her 70s, approximately 5ft 2in tall, of small build with strawberry blonde hair.
“When she was found she was wearing a distinctive cerise pink Nike T-shirt.
“Do you recognise the description of the woman or do you have any information about who she is? Please come forward and tell us what you know.
“I would also ask any walkers or dog walkers who have been in the park, and specifically the area of the walled garden, in recent days or weeks - have you seen or heard anyone acting suspiciously or do you have any information which could assist our investigation? Please speak to us as a matter of urgency.”
A police cordon remains place inside the park while enquiries remain ongoing and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to police officers at the scene. A mobile police station will also be in the vicinity of the park from tomorrow, Sunday 30 August.

@mikeerwydd1968@Nigel_Farage He will never become PM, he would have to give up all his other jobs an he wont want to do that and lose the money he earns. He only wants to spread hate and turn us on one another, keeps him popular amongst fools
@sub_nocte@EugeneIpavec@jk_rowling@IWF How is it being irresponsible for a 14yo to have body autonomy? It wasn't a life saving op. I was confident they understood the risks of having v not having the surgery, the surgeon was confident. At 14 no one (outside of an emergency) can force them to have an op they dont want
@sub_nocte@EugeneIpavec@jk_rowling@IWF My (then) 14yo chopd refused a surgery, my child didn't get the surgery. My child's body, my child's choice. My child understood the pros and cons and chose for themselves
@EnglishRose543 I never said get rid of the royal family or armed services...they'd still have their jobs even if we scrapped this particular event, pretty sure they'd get paid even if we scrapped today..
The pomp, ceremony and extravagance is sickening really....what a waste of time and money. Time to put these outdated practices to bed #openingofparliament#kingsspeech
@KimJohnsonMP please attend the debate, families of disabled children are tired of fighting to have our childrens needs met,we need you to fight too,the SEND white paper is nothing more than a cost cutting exercise. The proposals aren't going to change anything for the better
A few words from Gill, SNJ Co-Director, about the protest, the Law Gazette article and what you can do: "Labour MPs have received suggestions about what they should say to the Secretary of State for Education after they have met with families to discuss the SEND reforms, 1/
