Just watched the 6pm news… you covered flu jabs, and NHS waiting times… there was no mention of the resident doctor strikes beginning tomorrow??
The general public need to know why these are continuing, and for many of us it isn’t about the pay!!
Why are resident doctors going on strike?
While patients wait longer to be seen in A&E, too many qualified doctors who could treat them can’t get a training job.
How many patients know this?
In 2025 there were 91,999 applications for just 12,833 training posts.
Thousands of doctors who want to be your next GPs and A&E doctors were shut out.
So when you wait months for an appointment/12hrs in A&E,
remember this is the government’s choice
@cml_smith I’m not sure what’s worse, that or the times I have walked into my bedroom after a long shift and realised I didn’t put the clean sheets back on
Tomorrow is my last shift as an F2 doctor, and with it, the end of foundation training. It feels quite bittersweet, and has made me pause and reflect on everything the last two years have taught me.
I feel sad to leave my current team and a great rotation, but I feel ready to forge my way towards a career in paediatric medicine and I am excited to see where this journey takes me next.
For now, two weeks of (already booked!) annual leave to rest and recharge 😊
I have cared for people at the very start and the very end of life. I have heard stories that made my heart sink, but witnessed moments that made it all worth it.

Why are we not talking more about the number of resident doctors facing unemployment from August? Maybe we will listen when we see more change. But at this rate, none of us will want to work in your NHS anymore.

Skilled. Exhausted. Unemployed.
That should be what we are talking about.
I would like to know how many doctors are currently at risk of unemployment from August/September.
I know of several clinical fellow jobs receiving over 500 applications for just one post.
@TheBMA
Skilled. Exhausted. Underpaid. That’s the reality for NHS doctors earning just £17/hr to care for your loved ones in their most critical moments.
Resident doctors are asking for £22/hr. A fair wage for highly skilled work.
But @wesstreeting won’t even come to the table. He’s hiding the pay review body’s report. He’s refusing to negotiate.
Same old Tory tactics. Just a red rosette this time.
Doctors, there are 9 days left until the ballot opens. To receive a ballot on time, make sure you update your workplace and home address details via: https://t.co/5KvMJe87lt
Are you the parent/carer of a child who has been cared for in #PedsICU?* We are looking for support on the Paediatric Intensive Care Audit Network (@PICANetAudit) Steering Group.
