@DrHWazir Dr Wazir, You remain a junior doctor until you grow up as a public servant and face the responsibility of looking after the tax payers who fund your adequate salary and generous pension.
@MikketC@TheBMA What a riculous question from the grumpy cardiologist. The Consultant Neonatologists will all be working, but they need a Junior Doctor to fill in the EPR and make them coffee.
Congratulations to Norwich @drpaulclarke and team. I recall your presentation at #REASON about a decade ago. What happened to the Birthday Cuddle? If there has been a PC shift donβt attempt to explain to me. Wake me up again when DRC reaches the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
@drbretty@thewomens Well done. @drbretty. The loud sigh of relief @thewomens is audible in Oxford. Joking mate. Pastures and projects new. Keep up the great work. Kevin Ives
Two very talented Professors of Neonatology and an old man who appears to be dancing with himself. Another fabulous Reason Conference. Many thanks to @Med_EventsCFS@NeonatalEthics@MckeonCarter and the the ever popular guest of honour- Professor Ian Laing.
A first for me in my 25+ years attending ReASoN neonatal conference- traditional music played by 2 neonatal professors @NeonatalEthics & Prof Ian Lang @Med_EventsCFS@NNAUK1
Honoured to be presented with a Neonatal Nurses Association Badge at #REASON2024 Roisin, your input in the past and now Dianeβs as committee members have been key to the success of this unique event as it enters its 31st year. Many many thanks. @Dianemk8@MckeonCarter@NNAUK1
Question for #medtwitter and #neotwitter. Please add comments as well. As physicians grow older, to ensure high-quality and safe patient care, after a certain age, they should be subjected to:
βNobody does it better, Makes me feel sad for the rest, Nobody does it half as good as Oxford, Our Experience is the best.β Been doing this for years. Keep up guys! @drbretty@calumtheroberts@neonataldoc @ccroehr @amitguptabliss
OK #NeoTwitter, Who did it better? The SHINE trial by @drbretty et al or this @NEJM paper in adults? Non-invasive ventilation before intubation. Less hypoxemia and less cardiac arrest. @EBNEO https://t.co/nRXqnj2T9B
And the neoGASTRIC Premiership as of today: Monash drop to 3rd and Oxford battling with Melbourne Royal Womenβs in mid-table. @drbretty@calumtheroberts
ππA huge thank you to all our sites for helping us reach the 1β£5β£0β£0β£ milestone! Also, congratulations to @EvelinaLondon on recruiting our 1500 baby ππ@NPEU_Oxford@NPEU_CTU@DrCGale
I would ask why they had been intubated and not received LISA or MIST in the DR whilst on nHFT, transferred to the NNU on nHFT and thereafter maintained on nHFT. Or am I too New Age?
#neotwitter poll:
I would normally extubate a stable 28w 1.2kg infant who was intubated in the DR, received surfactant and is now breathing well, with a good gas and in air at 4 hours of age to:
Quite right Peter. I was corrected on the spelling of fetusby Prof Andrew Wilkinson the first day I stepped into the Oxford (English) Neonatal Unit. But it is time you learned the correct abbreviation nHFT rather than the shortened slang on the streets of Chertsey and Melbourne.
@drbretty @afif_elKhuffash Final word, BMJ Feb 1967
Fetus is "less ugly in print," the version "Cicero would have used" and was already correctly used by half the global English-speaking population.

@drbretty Works within 12-24 hours without changing anything else. If feeding, feeds continued. One week IV probably over the top but part of the mysticism. French very keen on it. Big trial v caffeine in progress? You are very New Age Brett.
Used in Oxford on up to 10 babies a year with apnoea resistant to caffeine of up to 20mg/Kg/day. Having ruled out other causes of apnoea, it almost invariably works. IV for 1 week. Can switch to oral at 30% higher dose. Keep up @drbretty
Lunch! You should be so lucky. When I were lad onβt surgical firm, Iβd go days without a meal. Good to hear you are having fun @livray_ but donβt be tempted away from your career path towards a Chair in Neonatology.
Is it just me or is this rubbish.
This cost me Β£9 for lunch because the canteen shut at 2pm. I know itβs a Saturday, but on-call in general surgery sometimes you canβt go earlier than that!
