@cultofpedagogy Think of the last time you assigned your students a project involving researching or finding information and were disappointed with the sources your students used. Your librarian can help put together a curated set of resources and teach how to find more quality resources
@cultofpedagogy Think of all the time you spend searching google for a read aloud, or articles, or mentor texts for certain writing styles. Your librarian can save you that time and recommend newer and more diverse options. A lot of the web sources rec the same books from 15-20 yrs ago
Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives. And librarians are on the front lines, fighting every day to make the widest possible range of viewpoints, opinions, and ideas available to everyone.
@ExLibrisMrHunt I’ve been doing summer lending for the past 7 years. I was a little worried the first time about the books coming back, but they all did and I’ve never worried since. Library books are meant to be used. Why should they sit on the shelves while the school is closed for break
@kelseybogan The learning stairs/risers/“amphitheater” I’ve been plagued by these in 2 out of 3 elem libs. Built in curved shelves that are not an appropriate depth or width for any size of book
@kelseybogan I’m strongest at collection development and environment (creating a space where students want to be/having a busy library), also knowing the curriculum and helping teachers
Not as good at creative programming and events. Definitely look at other librarians for these ideas
@becinthelibrary I will probably do the Picture Book category since I already have all of them. The timing of the announcement is tricky with international book orders. I think Rover’s Story is coming in my order as well
@thenextgenlib I love this idea! When I tried March madness in the past, a lot of students didn’t want to read books that were pre-chosen. This opens them up to still have free choice but have a fun tournament
