Harmful AI outcomes aren’t inevitable—they’re the result of human choices. Today, we co-led a letter with 40+ orgs calling on Congress to put workers first. We need federal AI guardrails to protect workers’ lives and livelihoods. ✊⚖️ #AILabor#TechPolicy
On Wednesday, Innovation Policy & Programs Director Crystal Weise joins @amprog to discuss why federal AI law must be a floor, not a ceiling. Congress must not strip vital state worker protections.

Since 2021, over 530 Starbucks stores have voted to unionize—yet zero workers have a contract due to stalled negotiations.
Now, the federal agency that helps resolve these kinds of disputes, the FMCS, has been gutted by the Trump admin, via @ljmcferran.

The Trump administration continues its assault on independent agencies—this time targeting the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service (FMCS). This 79-year-old agency, which plays a critical role in mediating labor disputes, has been gutted and left with a “skeleton crew,” weakening federal support for resolving conflicts between workers and employers.
Lauren McFerran, TCF senior fellow and former chair of the NLRB, responds:
"At a time when increasing numbers of workers are joining together to seek union representation and advocate for better wages, benefits, and working conditions, it is critically important that workers, unions, and businesses have somewhere to go when labor negotiations turn tense.
Seeking help from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service is often the best step that these parties can take to turn things around and avoid costly and disruptive labor disputes.
The Trump Administration's decision to decimate the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and abandon the vital role that this important agency plays in maintaining labor peace will undermine worker's rights nationwide."
