a patient I’ve had the privilege of caring for several times told me that he’s been clean from alcohol for 167 days today and when I expressed how proud I was of him, a beautiful smile came on his face. that, right there, is why I am a nurse.
I genuinely mean it when I say “it’s SO good to see you” to people. I cannot begin to express how overjoyed I get seeing people I grew up around just out there just living their lives and thriving.
There is literally no need for the mean girl persona in nursing school. It honestly breeds the idea that it’ll be okay to be horribly rude and inconsiderate toward fellow staff members and patients.
If you want to know what a real Christian woman is, it’s the stranger who prayed for me through the bathroom door while I was crying over a bad exam grade.
& I will never forget that act of kindness.
