There’s a mom I used to see at school drop-off all the time.

Messy bun, always a few minutes late, her kids usually munching dry cereal out of a Ziploc. The kind of mom people whisper about. The “Pinterest moms” definitely had their opinions.

I’ll admit, I used to feel a little bad for her. Like she was always just barely holding things together.

Then one day at the playground, everything flipped.

My son, who’s neurodivergent, had a full sensory meltdown. Not the quiet kind. It was loud, overwhelming, and honestly a little scary. I ended up sitting in the dirt with him, completely frozen, trying not to cry but failing.

The other moms noticed. They looked, then slowly started pulling their kids away. No one said anything, but the distance said enough. And then she showed up.

Messy bun, big bag, slightly out of breath. She didn’t hesitate. Just dropped her stuff and sat right there in the dirt next to us.

I’m can’t decide if I’m more mad or disappointed. I’ve had my multi auto and home insurance with @StateFarm for years, and my rates keep going up even tho I’ve had no claims! I guess it’s time to switch. They must need the $$ for commercials!!
