The effect of creels on cod mortality is negligible if anything, and isn't enough to justify putting men out of business and losing the next generation of creel boats

@whiteglen @VickyQuay @TheOpenSeas @ArranCoast @marinescotland @MairiGougeon Prawn creels don't catch cod as a by-catch. The escape holes in them are large enough for fish to swim out. We are not interested in a creel Vs trawl war, we just want the ban on creels to be lifted as there is no evidence they affect spawning at all.

@VickyQuay @TheOpenSeas They did, especially ones like @ArranCoast , but they have gone back on it now as it has emerged there is zero evidence that creels cause noise disturbance to spawning cod. The evidence that @marinescotland did quote has since been removed from the ScotGov website @MairiGougeon

@VickyQuay @TheOpenSeas All the eNGOs now say that creels should be allowed to fish, yet families like mine are now without an income for 11 weeks thanks to @MairiGougeon. This was the responses when asked if creeling should be included in the ban. A resounding NO.

I always look for the best in folk. Today I sat in on a meeting of @ScotGov employees @marinescotland who are now actively prosecuting a policy of selective destruction of low impact fishers, creel/dive, whilst protecting trawlers. Utterly Shameful.

Trawlers and dredgers can go elsewhere for 11 weeks, but creelers will have to tie up, and families will lose their income. @MairiGougeon what do you suggest we do??
