This week, the week of November 18th, is recognized as National Crash Responder Safety week.
As of late September, 28 first responders had been killed by vehicles including law enforcement, fire, EMS, DOT, and tow truck drivers. All of those people had families to go home to but didn't get to and ALL of those incidents were preventable.
The State of Colorado has a "Move-Over" law requiring drivers to slo down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles, tow-trucks, or highway maintenance when emergency lights are activated.
We unfortunately encounter close calls daily whether we're working on the side of a road or highway or responding to calls.
One is one too many.
🚨UPDATE 🚨
An additional 35 members of Colorado Task Force 1 (CO-TF1) will be responding to Florida to assist with Hurricane Milton.
CSFD will be sending 10 members in addition to the 4 CSFD members there. The 4 currently there will be transitioned to come home soon. CSFD has 17 total members assigned to CO-TF 1.
For our Springs community- sending these personnel to help our neighbors in the east will not impact our operations in any way in Colorado Springs.
