Last night, in the wake of the news about Graham Platner, our public unendorsement of him, and our sense of alarm we felt watching everything go down, we made a mistake.

When we received the information about Troy Jackson, our fear was that the left was about to accidently rally behind another potential monster. We panicked and spread unverified allegations in a post about Troy Jackson that has rightfully received criticism.

We agree with many of you that we acted in a manner that was irresponsible and inappropriate. This post was inexcusable. It is not the only post that is inexcusable, and we ourselves need to make a change.

In the past month, many of the statements we’ve released about particular candidates have not served as the open forums on things we find important as we had hoped. To paraphrase a particularly resonant criticism, it reads as self-important, not actually important, and has only served to damage the movement. It is clear it is not our place to make these kinds of declarations about candidates, nor are we good at it.

We are a young org comprised of a bunch of livestream chatters coming together to try and learn how to do politics. As we publicly learn many of the same lessons that our peers already have, we hope to grow into the kind of organization that we expect ourselves to be. We want to be helpful in advancing leftist politics, and we regret that we have let everyone down with our statements.

We will be taking down our post about Troy Jackson and leaving this kind of thing to people far more qualified. We deeply apologize to Troy Jackson and to other candidates whom we rushed to speak negatively about recently.
