@KodyDuncanPGH He isn’t comfortable playing shortstop when you watch. Been solid with the bat, but has a negative defensive WAR so don’t see it as a bad thing to try him in CF. And Harder on his ankle? They have him running from shortstop to take cut off throws from right field to home plate.

Skenes is that good and intelligent enough to be able to adjust. You seem to be the one not comprehending.Have a good one

He was making an in game adjustment to lower his pitch count after the first three innings so that he could stay in the game longer. He did just that and was just as effective getting the brewers bats out and keeping them off balanced.

Only 1 of the last 15 batters faced actually hit the ball out of the infield; all of the others were strikeouts or didn’t get past the infield. I’ll gladly take him to face them a fourth time through when they weren’t making any sort of solid contact.

@Save_us_Brad @BernieSmaq @ThePoniExpress He was more effective when he made the adjustment and took the velocity down and was able to work through 4 no hit innings in only 36 pitches and had Brewers bats looking off balanced. At no point did Brewers look like they were going to hit him solidly or chase him out.

Him controlling the ball by throwing with less velocity definitely showed and led to him being less effective when you look at those last 4 innings; if anything it showed maturity as he was able to adjust in game to limit his pitch count.

@Save_us_Brad @BernieSmaq @ThePoniExpress I understand that, but I don’t think he was losing heat as much as he just adjusted and was trying to take some off of the fastball to help control his pitch count after 63 pitches in the first 3 innings as he realized he couldn’t average 21 pitches an inning to stay in the game

@BernieSmaq @ThePoniExpress He was rolling the last four innings (36 total pitches); especially the 7th (6 pitches). At least toss him out there to start the 8th and see what happens. At no point did it look like his stuff was getting sloppy or weaker.

@derekshelton please give us some sort of non-bs load mngmt explanation as to why Skenes was pulled? 6 pitch 7th, 36 total pitches over last 4, threw 107 and 102 pitches the prior starts w/o a no-no going. The last start before the all star game. Let the kid do something historic

The fact that the #Pirates have not signed @BauerOutage after the bullpen meltdowns the last 2 days is criminal. Just sign him to close out the games Skenes and Jones can’t finish. Hell, just have him close out the last few innings of every game bc I can’t keep watching this pen.
