I realize a lot of folks are unaware of the significance of the USMNT's victory tonight against Paraguay.
To put it into context, it'd be like if Texas A&M were good at anything.
@dlv7709@Chrisb_168421@FlaskedWriter & the NCAA could have easily claimed that if they had evidence (they did not). The rule exists as a deterrence ("slippery slope"). Very few systems of rules exist where the severity of the punishment does not corresond to the severity of the offense. I just have a problem w/ that
@dlv7709@Chrisb_168421@FlaskedWriter I simply believe betting on his team to lose or shaving points is far worse & that the same punishment should not apply. I think Sorsby deserves a full season (maybe half) suspension. Had he made bets on his team to lose, or bet on his team as an active player, perma-ban.
@40AcresBuilt@PlankShow@smash_capital@CodyC64@SenTedCruz@MariaCantwell Don't want to be argumentative, but just dug into this. I feel I know what Cody is trying to do (and respect the goal in a lot of ways), but is he directly involved in Project Rudy? And next question, would this be terribly bad?
So let me get this straight.
The corrupt, impeached and criminally-indicted Texas Attorney General is vouching for the integrity of the Texas Tech football program.
Maybe they should find a better character witness.
Sorsby bet on his team to win as a redshirted 18 year old. Betting on your team to lose while active, or shaving points, is far worse. Different crimes have different degrees of harm & should therefore reflect different degrees of punishment. Sorsby's actions โ death penalty.
@Chrisb_168421@FlaskedWriter Chris, I don't fully disagree. However, out of all those examples of players, who do you trust more with the integrity of the game? The thief, rapist, or guy who bet on his team to win? If you were their employer, who would you trust more to represent you and your business?
@dlv7709@Chrisb_168421@FlaskedWriter Not the same as betting on them to lose or shaving points. The NCAA verified that Sorsby's bets didn't impact the integrity of the game. Either every instance of gambling deserves the death penalty, or there are varying degrees of harm that deserve varying degrees of punishment.
@Chrisb_168421@FlaskedWriter The integrity of the game is directly made by the trust and honor of the players & coaches that make up the game. โI donโt trust this kid (who bet on his team to win) to play, but this player who committed (insert: sexual assault, theft, reckless endangerment) sounds honorable.โ
A 22 minute video defending themselves on their decision to fuck with the integrity of the game.
Iโm all for supporting Sorsby as a human being, but we canโt be damaging the sport in the process.
