Got curious and looked up the numbers since the anti-flopping rule started in 2023-2024…
23-24 season: 26 calls/fines
24-25 season: 6 calls/fines
25-26 season: 1 call/fine
The league knows exactly what they’re doing
My thoughts on all three of Drake’s new albums:
(take this with a grain of salt, I know it hasn't even been 24 hours)
ICEMAN:
This is literally all I wanted from a Drake album. I pretty much saved every song from here and is clearly the standout from the bunch. To me, we got to see Drake show off his versatility as a rapper here, working with different styles of production and not boxing himself in some ways that he has in the past. He has a chip on his shoulder and that is when he is at his best as a writer. He didn't drag it but I liked the way he addressed some of what happened in 2024. 'Whisper My Name', 'Make Them Cry', and 'Plot Twist' are some of his best songs I've heard in over half a decade. This is gonna be on repeat all year I already know.
HABIBTI:
There are definitely Drake fans out there that enjoy this side of him more than I do. I feel like I'm more picky when it comes to his R&B records and this album kind of underwhelmed me. Tracks like 'High Fives' and 'Gen 5' are major standouts for me and are more in the lane of what I really like from him in this element. I will for sure spin this back I can see it growing on me. I don't wanna say too much else based on one listen... but I am not a fan of the features, there was so much wasted potential with placements on this album.
MAID OF HONOUR:
I'll keep it real, I don't think I can fully appreciate this one while listening in my room at 10:30am lmao. I need to hear this outside and feel the energy in a crowd setting. That being said, I don't really think I'm gonna listen to this much compared to the other two at least for now. I just think it's unfair to just straight up call it ass lol
