did this on a train this morning, badly, the way everyone does it: 3,805 pages left across the longlist, 34 days till the shortlist. that's 111.9 pages a day if you haven't opened one yet. the number changes tomorrow. mine's a spreadsheet that finally does the division for me.

@TheLostElla My grandfather passed away over 50 years ago, he was a poet and a university professor. I have his copies of the Lord of the rings and the complete works of Shakespeare, all with his marginalia . it’s a treasure
