Good swing here as Gonzalez turns on this pitch and drives it into the LF corner for a double.

Zion Avina (โ28, CA) had a couple loud barrels yesterday which included this shot for a double. Coming off a strong soph. season for OLU. Compact stroke that gets some quality juice for the frame. #CAKickoff@ZionAvina17
My son is in Coach Pitch All-Stars and the amount of drama has been wild. The idea of Coach Pitch All-Stars is already silly because 75% of this game is whether or not Calvin from accounting can throw a strike from a little league mound (he can't).
Ever wonder what makes WVU so good at what they do?
Meticulous repetitions.
Example A: Armani Guzman taking bunts. But notice Co-Head Student Manager Cam Kirsch giving him a live feel.
Attenion to detail in everything it does allows WVU to host.
@WVSportsDotCom
This set up by Brett Sullivan in foul territory on a throw from RF allows him to reach across his body further into foul territory & catch the ball with enough body control to be able to redirect his momentum back into fair territory to make the tag. If he was in front of HP & had the same throw into foul territory, he would not have had the ability to come back & make the play. Just too much momentum moving away from the play. If you start foul & itโs a good throw, you have ample time to move into fair territory to make the tag.
POP TIME
Catchers are always trying to improve their pop time. Taking the location variable out of the mix there are two ways to improve pop time . Speed up your transfer or improve your throwing velocity. In general there is an inverse relationship between transfer & velocity. The faster the velocity the slower the transfer & the faster the transfer the slow the velocity. You have to find the sweet spot between the two to get your best pop time. This doesnโt account for the accuracy component. Sixty three to sixty seven per cent of pop time is ball flight so giving up too much ball flight velocity to quicken your release may not be the best strategy. For every MPH increase in velocity the ball arrives 1โ6โ sooner to the target. This is a trial & error process, however building throwing velocity is never a bad thing.
Terry Francona on the line drive that hit Chase Burns:
โI ask him, โhey man, please tell me you have a cup on?โ and he said no, I was like, โChase, I donโt even watch a game without wearing a cup.โโ
Apropos of nothing, people forget just how good Mark Kotsay was as an amateur. He won the Golden Spikes as a true sophomore (!) batting .422/.492/.776 w/ 21 dongs + elite defense.
But wait: He also pitched! In 21 G, he threw 29 IP with a 0.31 ERA and 11 SV.
And now you know.
"Family comes first...my daughter was very grateful I had the opportunity to spend the day with her. Watch her become a first gen grad at USC."
-Mark Kotsay on missing Friday night's game to be at his daughter's graduation at USC
Key takeaway on this back side pick at 1B by Christian Vazquez is the exchange. The ball never comes to rest in his glove. It just changes directions in a hurry.
โ27 INF/OF Ricardo Hurtado of @olubaseball
Few guys have popped us much as Hurtado has this year. Thereโs strength in frame with room for more and the result is continuously loud contact at the dish. Aggressive but selective approach; doesnโt often chase. Lots to like here.
โ26 INF CJ Weinstein of @olubaseball
Multi-hit day for the #LSU signee and #MLBDraft prospect.
Came into the game with a team high .363 BA and tied for team high with 33 hits on the season. Even his misses are hits.
