I welcome foreign film productions to Jamaica, and I want to see more projects like ‘Possession’ choose our country.
But my main goal is to build a strong Jamaican film industry where our own companies finance, produce, and export their work, and where Jamaicans benefit from the value created.
I want to recognize the work of JAMPRO, Minister Hill, the Jamaica Film Commission, and Film Commissioner Jackie Jackson for promoting Jamaica as a film destination.
I recognize Storm Saulter, who I first met years ago when he was working on Better Must Come.
Jamaica has strong film roots, but for years we did not invest enough in the industry. Now we are correcting that by putting real investment into the sector because we believe in its future.
It is clear from your tweets that too many of you were not raised in a home where you were allowed to disagree & express your opinion & explore nuance. So sorry about that. But it's not too late to learn how. Engage your brain. You can do it ❤️
