Before midnight tonight, ET folks can still object to the Trump administration's effort to make anyone who contracts with the federal government certify they will abide by the Trump administration's misinterpretation of civil rights law. https://t.co/4YsSF3WolD
More attention needs to be given to the lack of adequate funding for K-12 public education, as well as the demise of any federal accountability. Weird to discuss reauthorization of ESSA when federal accountability currently being destroyed and federal funding for schools cut!
TODAY AT 12:00 PM ET: The Hamilton Project is hosting a virtual event on measurement, outcomes, and accountability in K-12 education. Register to watch: https://t.co/2kG5dJXKDq
Governor Stitt just granted clemency to Tremane Wood! I'm so grateful to all who spoke up on his behalf, and to know that it mattered! I hope to have an opportunity at NCYL 2 work with Tremane and others to raise awareness of the often overlooked needs of traumatized youth!
Tremane's execution is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Oklahoma time. Please email Governor Stitt and urge him to grant clemency. [email protected] https://t.co/YnQOZIcrRD +encourage him 2 listen 2 Alton Carter.
Here, Alton Carter, author of The Boy Who Carried Bricks, says the OK public schools neglected Tremane's needs. He knows, because he worked at the middle school Tremane attended, and feels he and others could have and should have done more.
Tremane Wood is scheduled to be unjustly executed TOMORROW unless Gov. Stitt grants clemency. Please click here to tell the governor to grant Tremane clemency now, before it's too late: https://t.co/BgQ2k1OIVp
We have less than 24 hours to act. Please call and email Governor Stitt immediately and repeatedly to urge him to grant Tremane clemency.

NCYL's @losendan's research into Tremane's treatment indicated that in 6th grade, the school system suspected he had a disability, but didn't evaluate him. If they had, he likely would've received therapeutic responses instead of harsh discipline.
I interviewed Alton Carter, who was involved with Tremane Wood's discipline in grade 6. He says they failed Tremane Wood. Educators knew he was abused, knew brother Jake was dangerous, yet pushed Tremane out 4 minor misconduct. Ask Governor Stitt to grant Tremane Wood Clemency.
Please email Gov Stitt of Oklahoma to urge clemency for Tremane Wood. There were severe instances of prosecutorial misconduct. I studied Tremane's childhood trauma and found the schools ignored his needs. Go to https://t.co/PKxKK77GIs to learn how to help. https://t.co/YnQOZIcZHb

Thank you @losendan & colleagues. The alarming rise of youth homelessness & foster placements across the country AND the experience of the children with no voice & no advocates needs more attention. We cannot look away, we must run towards them. Your data is so important!
We just released our latest report on school discipline in California and there are som deeply disturbing findings. Please circulate. https://t.co/rULRxzlUf5
Ramon Flores released our report covering school discipline in California with the most recent data and trends for every district going back 7 years. Some shockingly high rates for students experiencing homelessness and those in the foster system. https://t.co/rULRxzms4D
Thanks to Jenny for posting. New report on CA school discipline coming out today. Some shocking data on the exclusion of youth in the foster system and those experiencing homelessness. However, some districts are making real progress.
With Florida's new law allowing corporal punishment in schools to only happen with parental consent, many people are realizing for the 1st time that it's legal at many schools for educators to hit children.😱 Years ago @UCLA's @LosenDan testified before Congress on this problem. Here are his insights & research in a @PsychToday interview (including WHAT WE CAN DO ABOUT IT): https://t.co/Y6ZXxhTgvT #TellEWA
🚨 The Senate budget bill puts immigrant children in grave danger.
It guts key protections, allows indefinite family detention in unlicensed facilities, and increases children’s risk of abuse, and exploitation.
📢 Tell Congress: NO on the budget bill. https://t.co/BfVGDWziqo
We hope advocates from across the country can put this new Opportunity to Learn Dashboard to good use. In addition, see the resources page 4 instructions on how 2 file a state records request for more recent school data from 2023-2024. Folks should file requests this month.
Every student deserves a fair chance to succeed, but not all students have the same access to learning opportunities. That’s why NCYL partnered with @SchottFound to launch https://t.co/TcC2sfNcTS, a first-of-its-kind resource that analyzes education equity. Explore the data now.
