Have walked past this spot thousands of times before but never knew there was once a clock above this doorway. The clock was removed in 1873.

The buildings now occupied by York Gin and Pizza Hut were once the homes of 17th-century adventurer Sir Thomas Herbert and 19th-century philanthropist and businessman Joseph Rowntree respectively.
