@WinJPR @wesyang If pool size was the explanation, you’d expect to see the top tiers in a ratio that matches the pool. 11% of fide rated players are women, but they majorly underrepresented at the top tiers, relative to their share of the pool.

Seems like male variability is the most likely culprit

@mtaibbi Nothing about their race or genetic makeup predisposes them, but that does not mean culture can not be formed by choice, on the basis of race or skin color, or love of a particular hobby. Eg. Comic Con and those who attend have their own unique subculture.
