What an appalling speech the Mayor of New York delivered for the 250th anniversary of the nation.

Sadly, it reflects the view of America propagated for years by Howard Zinn and his like-minded colleagues in the universities and believed by armies of the young: a dark, oppressive country where common people are denigrated by tyrants and oligarchs, where immigrants are treated with contempt, where those with “soft hands” hold the wealth created by those with dirty hands.

No sensible person would claim that our country is without flaws, but the relentlessly negative picture painted by Mayor Mamdani is just absurd.

For years I tried to hide the evidence.

The empty bottles.
The panic attacks that left me shaking on the floor.
The grief that made me disappear from the world for years.
The fact that losing my son nearly destroyed me.

I thought if people saw the scars, they'd see the worst parts of me.

Failure.
Weakness.
A woman who couldn't keep it together.

Then one day it hit me.

Jesus kept His scars.

Of all the things He could have left in the tomb, why those?

The nails were gone.
Death was defeated.
The battle was over.

But the scars remained.

Maybe because scars tell the real story.

Not of what won.
Of what tried to kill you and failed.

The enemy wants you ashamed of the very thing God plans to use.

The addiction you survived.
The diagnosis that changed everything.
The child you buried.

You keep covering the scars.
God keeps pointing to them.

Because those scars are proof.

Proof that hell threw everything it had at you and you're still standing.

That's what grace looks like.

Stop apologizing for your scars.

They're not evidence of the worst parts of you.

They're evidence of God's faithfulness.
