More people were shot and killed in America over Independence Day weekend than are killed by guns in Japan and the UK combined during an average year. It’s not video games, lack of prayer, or too many doors that caused that. It’s guns. It’s always guns.
It’s 2 AM on Sunday. We haven’t slept since Thursday night. The eviction moratorium expired, so we’re now in an eviction emergency. 11 million are now at risk of losing their homes at any moment.
The House needs to reconvene and put an end to this crisis.

The Republicans say that we cannot afford to invest in health care, education, housing, nutrition and the basic needs of working families. I say that we cannot afford to give trillions in tax breaks to the rich and large corporations and spend $740 billion a year on the military.
If you paid $120 for a pair of Nike Air Force 1 shoes, you paid more to Nike than it paid in federal income taxes over the past 3 years, while it made $4.1 billion in profits and Nike's founder, Phil Knight, became over $23 billion richer. Yes. We must #TaxTheRich.
I spoke for a few minutes yesterday with Amazon workers in Alabama. They told me about the heat, the absurd breaks, and the fact that if you are one minute late you lose a whole hour of pay. That is why they are standing with courage and taking on the richest man in the world.
The polling shows that gun violence prevention policies are among the most popular in our country. Why hasn’t the Senate passed any of them?
