Types of projects that I worked as Freelance Data Engineer 👇🏻

This is a common question I get about the type of work you get as a freelance data engineer and it varies a lot

📍Web Scraping:
When I started my journey as a freelancer I didn't get projects related to core Data Engineering, I started with simple web scraping projects. My first project task was to extract data from some HTML files, clean them, and then load them into PostgreSQL.

I did many projects related to web scraping early in my career.

📍Writing ETL Scripts:
It can be just modifying small logic in an existing script or writing a complete script from scratch, I used to get both types of work. One of the problems involved me helping one client modify some parts of the AWS Glue script and another involved understanding their complete business process to build the final analytics layer.

📍Data Modeling and Consulting Type
These are types of projects where small/mid-companies are thinking of going data-driven, they might be using Excel and manually running their job, they want to automate the entire process, and build robust data systems for analytics.

These are quite long-term projects where you work with these companies and help them to solve their problem by working closely with them.

📍Data Architecting and Execution
Following on the above point, it can be just planning strategy or executing the entire plan from architecting -> working system, as a freelancer you are an expert so you get to do a lot of things by yourself

Tools that you use are different from client to client, sometimes they have existing tools they have purchased previously or they have no idea what to do so you have to suggest them.

Also, you have to sign an NDA while working on these projects and use a VPN or their remote PC for data protection.
