every day I get home and tell alex about funny bars I heard in roc marciano songs and she tells me all the funny lines of dialogue she read in middlemarch
Home security video captured three ICE agents cornering and questioning a man Monday morning in SoMa. One, a plainclothes officer, drew his gun on the man, who appeared unarmed.
When an agent asked why he ran, the man replied “I don’t know who you guys are,” explaining that he was on his way to work. “You’re violating my rights as a U.S. citizen.”

good jay beaman quote about the vintage steel mountain bike revival that didn't make it into the story: "everything that's ever been cool is the product of poor people turning trash into culture"
This is interesting. SF and other CA cities could implement a rent freeze for rent control homes, but advocates there aren't interested.
(A 0% increase vs. 1.6% isn't that significant.)
In CA, the big, elusive prize for tenant advocates is vacancy control — keeping rents at a similar rate from one tenant to the next.
NYC significantly strengthened its vacancy control policy with the 2019 rent law. It reduces the incentive for landlords to try to evict rent control tenants. But some landlords say it makes it uneconomical to rent their units, leading them to keep homes empty and off the market.

Important news: We’ve decided to shut down The Frisc. Thanks to everyone for your support and attention all these years — nearly a decade, in fact. See our full announcement at https://t.co/1HGtK5x6VZ.
In his photographs, the skateboarder Jerry Hsu captures Los Angeles’s manic extremes. He maps a city of leftovers and castoffs; portraits of friends and strangers in the street are full of dazed, inscrutable expressions. Many of his images, even the faintly violent ones, possess an absurdist humor. “Maybe this is corny,” Hsu said, “but all this chaos and these little beautiful secrets I found here reminded me of myself.” See more of his photos: https://t.co/T5AjVmEC6E
Someone try to prove me wrong:
This looks like the single largest donation by an individual to a supervisor/council race in the whole U.S. (maybe ever?)
Spent last night researching but couldn’t find one >$500K. (Inflation ofc may change that claim.)
