Working people like Suzanne should never have to worry about going to jail because they missed one monthly council tax payment.
@MartinSLewis and @mmhpi raised the damage inflicted from council debt collection with me and we acted to change the rules, so you have more time to pay.
Our ongoing project, Money Secrets, in partnership with @lowellfvi, is exploring why people fall into problem debt and what can be done to stop it.

We’re proud to partner with @UKMoneyWellness who support our customers…find out more about Abis story this #DebtAwarenesaWeek and let’s eliminate the stigma of debt!
Abi’s story: how vet bills tipped her into debt. 🐾
Abi came to Money Wellness for support after being referred by @lowellfvi, she owed around £13,000. After leaving an abusive relationship, she became a single parent and worked hard to restart her career in hairdressing and barbering, using her credit card to buy the equipment she needed.
Vet bills for a rescue cat quickly mounted and when insurance failed to cover the costs, the pressure grew. Unclear pricing and buy now, pay later products added further strain to an already fragile financial situation.
Abi’s story shows how easily life events can push someone into debt and why understanding the story behind it matters. 🧡
