Just working all month to make sure you can afford to work next month.

And then someone who bought their first house for the price of a Tesco meal deal tells you that the issue is “people don’t work hard enough”.

Ausführlich zu Ceuta: Am Donnerstag gelangten 49.000 Menschen aus Marokko nach Ceuta, spanisches 🇪🇸 Staatsgebiet. Die Bilder gingen um die Welt. Menschen schwammen ohne Gepäck oder Proviant nach Ceuta, Massen folgten. Rassisten weltweit reagieren mit regelrechter Panikmache. Gehen wir in 7 Punkten durch, was passiert ist und was dahinter steckt.

1) Ceuta ist nicht Europa 🇪🇺. Ceuta ist eine Enklave Spaniens in Nordafrika, ein Überbleibsel der spanischen Handelsaußenposten und des Kolonialismus. Es ist also niemand nach Europa gekommen. Alles spielte sich in Afrika ab. In Ceuta leben auch überwiegend Marokkanischstämmige.

2) Weltweit wird von Rechten und Rassisten von einer „Invasion“ gesprochen. Die Darstellung wird durch Panikmache künstlich ausgeschlachtet. Die Realität ist weitaus nüchterner und sachlicher. Wer in Ceuta einreist - ob legal oder illegal - ist offiziell noch nicht in die EU eingereist. Ceuta gehört nicht zum Schengen-Raum. Um selbständig von Ceuta aufs spanische Festland zu gelangen, braucht man entweder eine EU-Staatsbürgerschaft, eine gültige Einreiseerlaubnis wie etwa ein gültiges Visum oder einen positiv abgeschlossenen Asylprozess. Spanien und Marokko kündigten bereits am Donnerstag an, alle Ankömmlinge nach Marokko zurückzuführen. Am Freitag wurde mit den Rückführungen begonnen.

3) Der Zeitpunkt ist relevant. Spaniens Premier Pedro Sanchez hat letzte Woche nach vier Jahren erstmals wieder Algerien 🇩🇿 besucht, Marokkos 🇲🇦 Rivalen in der Region. Spanien 🇪🇸 will seine Beziehungen zu Algerien verbessern. Das missfällt mehreren Akteuren. Nicht nur den USA, die Algerien isolieren wollen, sondern auch dem König Marokkos, der Algerien als Hauptfeind marokkanischer Interessen betrachtet. Dass Marokkos Regierung die Migranten selbst zur Grenze gebracht haben könnte, zeigen Videos von Transportern voller Menschen, die unter Aufsicht marokkanischer Polizei in Grenznähe halten. Marokko hat in der Vergangenheit immer wieder Migrationsströme nach Ceuta und Melilla als politisches Druckmittel gegen Spanien eingesetzt, z.B. 2021. Damals hatte Spaniens Regierung den Anführer der Westsahara-Unabhängigkeitsbewegung Polisario, unter falschem Namen aus dem algerischen Exil einfliegen und wegen schwerer Corona-Erkrankung behandeln lassen, ohne Marokko zu informieren. Für Marokko war das eine Provokation, weil es die Polisario als Gegner in der Westsahara-Frage betrachtet und Algerien Marokko ebenfalls als Feind betrachtet.

4) Spanien hat aktuell extrem schlechte Beziehungen zu Israel 🇮🇱 und den USA 🇺🇸, nachdem Spaniens Regierung Israels Genozid in Gaza kritisierte und sich nicht am Angriffskrieg der USA und Israels gegen den Iran beteiligen wollte. Das sind zwei der engsten politischen Partner des marokkanischen Königs. Israels UN-Botschafter Danny Danon reagierte am Freitag mit Häme auf das Geschehen in Ceuta und brachte es in Zusammenhang damit, dass Spanien ständig „Israel Predigten halten” würde. Bereis 2019 rief Yair Netanyahu, der Sohn des israelischen Premierministers, dazu auf, Ceuta aus spanischer Kontrolle zu „befreien”. Auch die US-Regierung übt sich in offener Feindseligkeit gegenüber Spanien. “Sprecht gar nicht erst mit ihnen. Die sind hoffnungslos. Das sind schlechte Menschen”, sagte US-Präsident Trump Anfang Juli. Dass auch Israel und die USA ein Interesse an Problemen für Spanien haben, liegt auf der Hand.

5) Die Emotion der Menschen in Ceuta ist echt. Selbst wenn zunächst einige der Menschen gezielt geschickt worden sein könnten, versuchten im Laufe des Tages Tausende ihr Glück. So viele, dass im gesamten Norden Marokkos Sicherheitskräfte ausrückten, um Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene von der Weiterreise abzuhalten. 49.000 Menschen schafften es laut Zahlen der spanischen Regierung nach Ceuta. So viele waren es noch nie. Es ist kein Geheimnis, dass die Jugend in Marokko kaum eine Zukunft sieht. Es fehlt an Arbeitsplätzen und Perspektiven. Kosten steigen. Für viele war es eine Spontanentscheidung gewesen sein, ohne Mittel den Strandabschnitt entlang nach Ceuta zu schwimmen. Neun Menschen starben beim Versuch. Die spanischen Behörden geben an, die Kontrolle in Ceuta wiederhergestellt zu haben. Vereinzelte Auseinandersetzungen soll es dennoch gegeben haben. In marokkanischen Medien heißt es, kriminelle Organisationen würden Jugendlichen falsche Hoffnungen machen und sie zur Grenze fahren.

Das Geschehen hat somit keine konkreten Folgen. Außer dass weltweit gegen Sanchez, Spanien 🇪🇸, Migranten und Muslime gehetzt wird. Sanchez und Spanien gelten als Kritiker und Gegenmodell zu rechten, israeltreuen Regierungen weltweit wie die USA, Italien und co. Das Netz füllt sich mit Endzeitszenarien, Schreckensdarstellungen und Panikmache. Der reichste Mann der Welt, Elon Musk, ein bekennender Rechter und Unterstützer der US-Regierung 🇺🇸, verglich die Situation mit einer Zombieapokalypse. AfD-Politiker 🇩🇪 schwadronierten von „Angriff”, „Kriegserklärung” oder „Terror”. Stimmen aus der israelischen Regierung 🇮🇱 und ihrer Nähe stellten die Situation als Bestrafung für Spanien dar. Italiens 🇮🇹 rechte Premierministerin Meloni kündigte an, das Schengen-Abkommen mit Spanien zu pausieren. Wie gesagt, Ceuta gehört nicht zum Schengen-Raum. Kurz: Alle scheinen die vorübergehenden Bilder ohne jede Beachtung von Hintergründen für ein Feindbild ausschlachten zu wollen.

Es ist also durchaus deutlich, wessen Interessen aktuell bedient werden. Ob direkt oder indirekt.

How the fuck are single people earning minimum wage or close to minimum wage in the UK actually supposed to survive on their own?

The numbers just don't add up anymore.

A full-time 37.5-hour week (40 hours but most employers give unpaid breaks) leaves you with roughly £1,700 a month after tax, National Insurance and pension.

Now take away around £800 for rent if you can even find somewhere that cheap, about £120 for council tax, roughly £350 on bills, then another £70 a week just to keep food in the fridge.

Once the basics are covered, there's barely anything left.

No money for saving. No money for emergencies. No money to actually enjoy life.

People keep saying "minimum wage is going up," but it still isn't enough to cover the cost of simply existing on your own.
