We're doing this work primarily in preparation of a major security win:

Distributing the Vercel cli as a binary will allow us to sign it for MacOS and Window. And that will allow us to store items in the OS secrets store in a way that only these binaries can read the value.

And that prevents infostealer malware to from trivially extracting tokens and secrets. Or in other words: A supply chain attack cannot easily escalate to a Vercel account takeover.
