@PlaidBarbarian It is surprising since about 75% of academic employees are contingent (https://t.co/XTFq0d1ZPT). Any survey aiming at being comprehensive would not limit itself arbitrarily to 25% of college faculty. I just cannot imaging the reasoning behind it.

Though skeptical of the FIRE surveys, I felt I should do the one they sent me. They want to "gain a *comprehensive* understanding of the attitudes and opinions of college faculty regarding free expression and academic freedom." Ok. But turns out contingent faculty "don't qualify"
