@RocketsForever @SaraChiefsFan @jaspscherer@longhornderek *didnt vote in 2020 in Texas. I read that as they voted in this year's primary - and maybe 2022 but they didnt necessarily live in Texas or werent old enough to vote.
A7. (4/4) Can you Imagine being 16, dropped at a shelter b/c no longer welcome at home? The state won't help b/c you are "almost an adult." Shelter staff wants to help, but don't have resources. & you arent ready to be on your own. Breaks my heart EVERY TIME I hear ANOTHER STORY.
A7. (1/x) #txlege needs to support families who struggle to meet the health and mental health needs of their kids. Homelessness services providers are reporting an alarming uptick of youth being dropped at their shelter by parents who can no longer meet their mental health needs.
Q7: The next #txlege session begins in January 2025. How can lawmakers better support the health and mental health needs of YYA who are vulnerable to systems-involvement or currently impacted by systems? #TNOYSTownHall
A7. (3/x) #txlege, this is not a one-off scenario. We have heard from shelter staff and youth services professionals at every Town Hall we have hosted about the alarming uptick in this exact scenario. #TNOYSTownHall
A7. We hear it constantly from youth and youth-services professionals. YYA need more access to mental health services & they need it earlier! Supports and education about mental health needs to be available in schools-where our youth are! And it needs to be funded! #TNOYSTownHall

A7: Lawmakers should increase funding for mental health services, improve access to care, and address systemic inequalities for YYA. #TNOYSTownHall#MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
A6. Not all YYA have parents or trusted adults to help navigate health care. Last year @TNOYS published this Healthcare Brief to help healthcare and youth services professionals & policymakers to support YYA and improve YYA health outcomes. #TNOYSTownHall https://t.co/iUkPKQrRQU
Q6: Youth and young adults (YYA) often do not have the resources they need for the transition into adulthood. What do YYA need to know about taking care of their health and mental health as they prepare for independent living? #TNOYSTownHall
A1: There are numerous barriers for young adults to have their health needs met, like access to prescriptions or transportation to appointments, but we won't know what they are if we don't listen to the young adults! Current YALC Member, Kirsten names a few here:
A3: Medicaid reimbursement rates are too low. Without increases, we'll continue to see a shortage of health and mental health professionals serving the Medicaid population in need of healthcare and mental health support. Increase rates - increase access. #TNOYSTownHall
Q3: What are ways to improve both health access and health education so that YYA can better understand their options and how to stay healthy? #TNOYSTownHall
A2. YYA experiencing homelessness share that they want to eat healthy and focus on their health, but they need to survive today. They must spend their time finding next meal or where to sleep tonight; they don't have time to think about health. #TNOYSTownHall#HousingisHealthCare
Q2: In addition to healthcare access, needs like safe shelter and healthy food are essential to YYAs’ physical and mental health. What preventative resources do YYA need to become and stay healthy? #TNOYSTownHall
A1. (2/2) YYA also wish they understood and learned about mental health earlier. They share if they knew about MH, the need to take care of their MH and how to do it sooner; they could have done so before concerns were exacerbated. #TNOYSTownHall#MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
A1. (1/2) @TNOYS has been holding in-person Town Halls around Tx. We hear consistently from Young adults and the professionals who serve them that lack of health insurance and access to mental health services are the biggest barriers. #TNOYSTownHall#MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

The moment has finally arrived! March 6-7 is #AmplifyAustinDay, the biggest giving event in Central Texas. Show your support for TNOYS and the youth and young adults we serve by contributing to our donation goals: https://t.co/Fxe0deblbH
Last week, TNOYS was in Washington DC to uplift issues around youth experiencing homelessness and supporting older youth in foster care. We were excited to travel with YALC alum Marlayna and join TNOYS members LifeWorks and @CitySq TRAC to meet with our elected officials. (1/2)
Ronald joined me @ the Capitol in '23 to ask the #txlege to support homeless youth. @TNOYS empowers youth to use their voice to create change. But it helps in many ways. My time with Ronald helped me grow & he educated some legislators. That ain't easy. Success! #TNOYSTownhall
A8: Some of the long-term benefits include a stronger sense of identity, self-efficacy, and better relationship skills. See what our YALC Member Ronald says about speaking at the Texas Capitol:
A2: @TNOYS listened to & learned from 120+ youth, young adults, & providers to develop actionable guidance to identify, address, prevent, & #EndHumanTrafficking. See some of our recommendations in this graphic & learn more here: https://t.co/9wcn5Ua9JL #TNOYSTownHall
A6 (2/2) Students experiencing homelessness w/o a parent, youth in foster care, those w/o engaged parents are most vulnerable to exploitation. #txlege decision means those most likely to be trafficked are who don't have access to trafficking prevention classes. #TNOYSTownHall
A5: (1/2) Texas Schools now offer trafficking and abuse prevention classes to teach youth how to build healthy relationships and identify early warning signs of CSEY. But the #txlege failed the most vulnerable by requiring parents to opt a student into the class. #TNOYSTownHall
Q5: Outcomes like youth homelessness, juvenile justice involvement, and health and mental health challenges can both result from and cause CSEY. What can CSEY prevention look like? #TNOYSTownHall
