@tingdan@adamdavidthomas Very good point @shanfernads. Some families may benefit from a trial of care to feel like they didn’t ‘give up’ on their loved one. As long as expectations are clear at the get go, this can jumpstart their grieving process as long as it does not prolong suffering of the patient.
@lskyec (and @kevwade_md) have been such an amazing presence in our program the past 5 years, Skye’s teaching, positive attitude, and amazing compassion have been an inspiration to the group and we can’t wait to see what she does next!
We wish her love and luck in Victoria!
One of our two newest grads @lskyec (and Stella!) is heading to Victoria BC and will be finishing a few rotations before starting as a staff emergency physician!
@lskyec trained at KGH and completed a fellowship in palliative medicine!

All six years of the @KelownaEM residents in the same photo (including past grads @tingdan and @baylis_jared). Can’t wait until March 3rd to see who’ll join the picture next year @CaRMS_CA @BCEmergMedNtwrk @EMResUBC
@KelownaEM grand rounds on palliative care in the ED with @lskyec. We also learned the finer points of chronic wound management with @QdoggMD, transient global amnesia, and trauma burn resuscitation.

Last month, the @KelownaEM residency program graduated its first two Royal College Emergency Medicine Physicians! Read what @baylis_jared and I had to say about what was a privilege of a lifetime: https://t.co/ZK5eCA4utT @UBCmedicine @ResidentDocsBC @CAEPResidents#meded#FOAMed
Our first local research day at @KelownaEM! @baylis_jared presents about the prevalence of palliative care education in #EM. Other talks from @Britt_H_Bailey & @lskyec! Idea for local research day came from @EddyLang1 at our departmental retreat to build local research capacity.
Paramedics giving palliative care may be option for patients at end-of-life & reduce unwanted ED visits! Many patients with terminal illnesses want to die at home, yet may call 911 b/c they are unsure what to do when they acutely deteriorate.

@361Joules Responders to this @CastanetNews poll only found an 86% vaccination rate. Now that we can no longer rely on herd immunity, we all need to be on the lookout for measles and other vaccine-preventable illness! @Interior_Health@lskyec
A week into the new year seems to perfect time to reflect on 2018, and the past five years. @KelownaEM for the first time has a full complement of residents, and has always had fantastic staff, nurses, RTs, and others! Looking forward to @CaRMS_CA and another great year!
A new @CAEP_Docs Featured Educational Innovation by @lskyec been posted! This innovation involved medical students completing a nursing shift in the ED as a method of inter-professional education. Check it out to learn more!
