After the Jill Biden CBS interview, I spoke to multiple senior Biden administration officials. All said they never personally witnessed the level of cognitive and mental deterioration that was apparent during the debate, and were confused by what they were watching.

Several said they noticed Biden slowing down somewhat with age and acknowledged the well-known verbal gaffes, but said that in private meetings he was consistently sharp, highly engaged, and often more prepared than the people briefing him.

One former official did say that over time access to the president became increasingly limited, leading some aides to quietly wonder whether staff around him were trying to shield the extent of his decline.

Obviously the Trump endorsement moved the needle, but it came late and the margin was too large to attribute to it alone. He backed the candidate he knew would win, and now the landslide becomes proof that a Trump endorsement still delivers, no matter what the approval ratings suggest.

Former President Joe Biden has filed a lawsuit against the Justice Department seeking to block the release of files related to interviews he conducted with a biographer that later became a central part of a special counsel investigation into his handling of classified documents.

Biden's lawsuit filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia seeks to block the Justice Department from releasing about 70 hours of audio files and transcripts to the House Judiciary Committee from interviews with ghostwriter Mark Zwonitzer that were used for his 2017 memoir "Promise Me, Dad." The interviews were conducted in 2016 and 2017.

The suit comes after three separate Freedom of Information Act lawsuits were previously filed attempting to unseal them. Biden and his attorneys have long maintained that the files are exempt from the Freedom of Information Act.
