Thoughts from behind the desk. An anonymous UK SME director, sharing the daily reality of running a business, staying afloat, and occasionally losing the plot.
Small, independent businesses forced out by a chain (founded by ex-bankers* with the inevitable crowdfunding - aka begging - credentials)

On the basis of BrewDog going through pre-pack administration and sold for £33m, and with £75m of crowdfunding investors (equity punks) wiped out, it’s time to stop considering @JamesBWatt as some kind of radical UK business hero, but a more: a national disgrace.
BrewDog’s "Punk" era faces its final curtain call. 🍻
James Watt has reportedly withdrawn his £10m rescue bid, leaving the door open for a pre-pack administration. Reports suggest a sale to industry giants could happen as early as this week.

Channel 4 used to be the "alternative" voice of British TV—a place for the risky, the experimental, and the genuinely provocative. A real public service broadcaster.
Now, it’s just a conveyor belt for mindless, advertiser-funded slop.
@Channel4
@ByRobDavies Wonder what all the ‘Equity Punks’ (aka source of free cash/mugs) will make of this? Starts to look ever so slightly like a pyramid scheme when all this free funding the owners have enjoyed is taken into account.
@KHarveyProctor Only a few hundred years ago this type of behaviour would be treason and he would have been executed in a particularly brutal way. Have little sympathy given how the guy has enriched himself at the public expense, whilst feigning to hold Labour values. A complete P.O.S.
For this price, knock the place down, reform our antiquated political system and build something that actually brings about change, not a completely dysfunctional ping pong table. Drain the swamp!
Parliament revamp could cost £40bn and take 61 years https://t.co/pVE2O64c11
@SophyRidgeSky “And Peter Mandelson is the embodiment of that. Charming, well connected, gossipy. In the inner circle.” - and in no way a person who is representative of the values that should define the Labour Party and its politicians. A complete fraud/creep.
@afneil Reading more about everything that went on between Mandelson & Epstein today, isn’t this a total failure of our security services MI5 / MI6 who should be monitoring this kind of underhand activity by a serving Gov. Minister?

@TimDier@CityAM If the risk is personal anyway, you may as well look at a personal loan at a far lower rate. SME lending at 30-40% interest is now commonplace. Saddled with this level of interest, it’s crippling for businesses to thrive.
@cityoflondon But sadly this is the way it’s going across our economy, independent operators with real identity and character driven out and supplanted by homogeneous chain businesses.
@cityoflondon Daisy Green would be just fine if not selected to run the park cafes. The current operators you are pushing out are, in fact, the small, independent family run business who will actually lose their livelihoods when forced to close.
