“To you we entrust all those whose span of earthly life was cut short by the violent hand of their brothers and sisters,” Francis said. “We also pray to you for those who caused such harm to their brothers and sisters. May they repent, touched by the power of your mercy.”
🚨 BREAKING: Keir Starmer is officially set to resign as Prime Minister
Several media reports say he'll outline a resignation timetable on Monday after consulting with his wife and family today
❤️Even Fleetwood Mac called this their best performance ever.
The band said they've never played better than this.
Not a single note was wrong. Fleetwood Mac is at the peak of their form.❤️
Congratulations to Andy Burnham
The PM says he wants him to have a big role in govt
Despite hype, no-one has challenged for the leadership
To do so would cause the country chaos, so I’m glad @Keir_Starmer has said he’ll run in any contest
I back him 💯- he’s delivering for 🇬🇧
Ossoff on Mike Collins: "He's pro-war. He's pro-tariffs. He's pro-cutting your healthcare. He's also a notorious bigot and antisemite, and an election-denying extremist who is only a congressman because his daddy was a congressman, and is a Trump puppet who will serve his needs and agenda mindlessly."
Michelle Obama shades Trump: How absurd it is to even imagine that you might have buckled under the pressure even once. Lashed out in frustration. Lost your temper. How absurd it is to imagine that you might have done anything but make our family and this entire country proud.
President Obama masterfully negotiated an agreement that prevented Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
Trump tore it up and went to war—only to lose the lives of 13 brave Americans, raise prices at the pump, and sign a failure of a “deal” that costs taxpayers billions.
Keisha Lance Bottoms kicks off the general election with a stop in Commerce outside a rural hospital that was forced to close because Georgia hasn’t expanded Medicaid.
Reagan is rolling over in his grave. Iran’s nuclear ambitions were not curbed, and they have learned that threatening the Strait of Hormuz works and will undoubtedly leverage it in the future. Now, Iran gets to build brand-new infrastructure under this deal.
Before the war, the strait was open, Iran was being crushed by sanctions, and 13 service members were still alive. Now, 13 Americans are dead, families have paid billions at the pump, sanctions will be lifted, and the bombing has stopped. This is the worst foreign policy blunder in decades.
NEW: Inside the Starmer fightback operation as Makerfield heads to the polls
* The PM has told MPs that Burnham will lose to Reform if he keeps “trashing” Labour’s record and compared his campaign to Ed Miliband’s strategy as Labour leader. He said on a recent call: “We tried that after 2010. It is a dead end.”
* Starmer allies are circulating a memo making the case for him to remain in office. It points to falling support for Reform and his success turning around Labour’s poll performance between 2021 and 2024. It says he “recovered an 18-point gap” with the Tories and is “closing the gap” with Farage.
* Starmer’s nascent campaign team is also pointing to recent polls showing Burnham and Streeting are less popular since they announced their leadership ambitions. Streeting now -38 net favourability, Burnham has recently hit negative figures at -7.
* Starmer ally: “Changing leaders would be a gift to Reform. Nigel Farage is desperate for a challenger to trash our record and then for Labour to toss away its mandate from millions of voters across the country.”
Meanwhile:
* Streeting and Burnham held a secret summit in Makerfield this week that could herald a deal between them. MPs are swapping wild rumours that one will offer the other votes in a leadership race, and that Streeting wants to be Foreign Secretary.
* Cabinet ministers are weighing up their options. Rachel Reeves has let it be known she should be left in post, while Yvette Cooper’s allies have told friends she has been urged to stay on by international contacts in France, Egypt and India.
* There is concern among Burnham’s allies he would not stand up to Starmer in a leadership debate because he has not practiced his policy pitch.
* There is also worry about the plan to make Miliband Chancellor. A Burnham-aligned source says it would be a “disaster” and could cause a “run on the pound”.

A non-aligned Labour source after reading this suggests views on what to do are not unanimous:
“It makes me sick the way these people are treating the country as their play thing. Deals between Wes, Ed and Andy to arrange a coup. The Labour Party will deserve everything that is coming its way. These are all the people who have been rejected by the electorate basically trying to take over via the backdoor of the Labour membership. They couldn’t win an election in 2015 or 2017 or 2019 so now they’ve chosen this method.”
EXCL: Lib Dems will call for UK to immediately begin talks to rejoin the single market in notable strengthening of party position.
In a speech today, Ed Davey will challenge PM to scrap Labour’s red lines - including on free movement - and end what he describes as “torpor and timidity” towards EU.
He will also argue for a new European security council to counter mounting threats from Russia and unreliability of Donald Trump.

CBS has been forced to pay a fine after Stephen Colbert played an unlicensed Peanuts song on air during his last episode.
The owner of the rights to Peanuts has donated the fee to José Andrés' charity, World Central Kitchen.
JD VANCE: I was a critic of Donald Trump back in 2015 and '16 and now I'm sitting here as the vice president
BEHAR: Yeah. What happened?
VANCE: Well, Joy, a little humility, actually
