In the hills of northern Italy, a hunter raises his rifle as the morning sun breaks through the mist. When he fires, it's not just a shot – it's the sound of history.
For nearly 500 years, Beretta has been crafting firearms with the same obsession for quality, passed down through 15 generations of one family.
This is the story of Beretta Holding, traced from Gardone Val Trompia's historic workshops to our firsthand visit inside one of its subsidiaries.

Beretta has manufactured firearms in Italy since 1526, remaining family-owned for 15 generations.
With the creation of Beretta Holding in 1995, the group began expanding globally through M&A with great success.
It was less of a shot, more of a controlled detonation.
None of us were experienced shooters. But in that moment, we felt exactly what Norma is really selling: control, clarity, and confidence.
Toward the end of the visit, we entered the armory. We were handed a large model and stepped into the test range to fire a round of the legendary .500 Nitro Express.
A couple of weeks ago, we traveled deep into the forests of Sweden to visit Norma, the historic ammunition manufacturer and subsidiary of Beretta Holding.
What does it take for a family business to endure five centuries?
What values and lessons have been passed down through 15 generations?
How do you uphold tradition while embracing innovation in a changing world?
We recently had the privilege of sitting down in person with Pietro Gussalli Beretta, the current CEO of Beretta Holdings, to find out. Pietro rarely gives interviews, so this one is especially exciting to share.
Edge issue #59. Hitting inboxes in a few hours.
5/ As Beretta prepares to celebrate its 500th anniversary next year, Pietro is pragmatic. Asked about his hopes for Beretta’s next half-millennium, he scoffs. “How am I supposed to know? The next generations will do what is best. I prefer to think about the next five years.”
4/ Pietro established Beretta Holding in 1995 with his father Ugo and brother Franco, expanding it beyond the namesake company through acquisitions and creating an empire with 19 brands in 23 countries. It posted $1.7 billion in revenues last year--ahead of all its competitors.
3/ That's a smart bet at a time of higher defense spending in Europe and the Middle East, and also helps add balance in a very cyclical market--soaring U.S. gun sales during the pandemic was good for Beretta's bottom line, but when they fell, that hurt Beretta's sales.
2/ The family-owned company bought ammo maker Ammotec in 2022, adding $600 million to its sales and making it the largest firearms company in the world. It also helped boost Beretta's defense sales, which now make up 34% of total revenues, up from just 14% before the deal.
1/ The Beretta family has sold firearms for 499 years. But it became the world's largest gunmaker by not sticking to its guns, expanding into scopes, clothing and now ammo. I profiled the family's 15th generation CEO Pietro Gussalli Beretta for @Forbes:

On a souhaité en savoir plus sur ces pubs virales qui promettent un miracle environnemental. Jugez plutôt : leur simple achat financerait protection de l'écosystème marin.
