Household energy bills are forecast to see biggest rise in FOUR years 😳
This month, prices are set to go up under regulator Ofgem's October price cap. Meanwhile, privatised energy companies have continued to profiteer while people struggle to keep up with their bills. When is enough, enough?
My full interview with @RidgeandFrost this morning.
It would be morally and electorally wrong to go back to the well of pensioners and scrap the #triplelock - we have the lowest pension in the G7. There are other areas we can get the money from. #WealthTax
Unless the tax-burden on working people is reduced, they will turn their back on politics for good. Labour must also cut household and industrial energy bills, as well as a windfall tax on banks.

From the West Midlands to London, buses are being brought back into public hands.
In the West Midlands, the government and West Midlands Combined Authority have decided to take bus services under public control - safeguarding jobs and services after the uncertainty around National Express.
Unite represents thousands of bus workers in the West Midlands, and we’ll be making sure workers’ hard-fought terms, conditions and agreements are protected as services move to a new employer.
And in London, plans are underway for a publicly-owned bus company, 'Buses for London' to launch in 2027.
The first route between Willesden and Victoria is due to begin operating in late 2027, with more routes planned to follow.
Unite has long campaigned for buses to be brought back into public ownership. Outsourcing bus services has too often meant pressure on workers, passengers and communities while private operators take profits.
Public transport should work for the public and that means good services, good jobs and decent conditions for the workers who keep our cities moving.
From the West Midlands to London, the case for public ownership is growing 🚌✊

#JobsPayConditions
Unite has long been calling for London's bus services to be returned to public ownership.
For too long bus workers have been subjected to intolerable working conditions and passengers have experienced worsening services while bus firms and their shareholders rake in huge profits. Today's news is a positive step, @unitetheunion will now be doing everything possible to ensure that Buses for London provides well-paid, unionised jobs with excellent conditions.

OVER 2 MONTHS ON STRIKE AND A HISTORIC PAY WIN 📣
Workers at the Institute of Cancer Research are returning to the jobs they love after securing a huge pay settlement. The lowest-paid workers are set to see their pay increase by up to 52%, while other staff will receive increases above inflation.
The deal also means an average pay increase of 17.2% over two years, plans to scrap the workplace pension have been dropped AND the staff canteen is coming back 🎉
Many of those who took action had never been on strike or even been members of a trade union before. But workers from across departments completely defied management expectations by standing together on picket lines and at rallies to win the better pay and conditions they deserve.
We spoke to Teige, Johnathan, Jamila and Danny about what this win means to them and their collegues.
This is what happens when workers stand together. There is power in a union. ✊
Burnham must end tax thresholds freeze
That tax threshold of around £12,500 – if that hadn't been frozen for the past few years it would have moved up to over £16,000 now. People at the lower end are paying eye-watering amounts of tax.

👉 Unfreeze the tax thresholds
👉 A package of investment in British industry “reindustrialisation” of the UK
👉Take energy into public ownership
👉 Just transition for workers into a net-zero economy

Today’s #energy price cap increase is another nail in the coffin of household budgets this winter. The time for stopgap and ad hoc measures is long gone. We need a complete overhaul of the energy market based on public ownership to drive down bills and end profiteering.
A wealth tax, as well as fairer taxes on corporate profiteers and the highest earners, would deliver far more money than any cuts to benefits and public services.
Public control of West Midlands bus services welcomed👏👏🏼
@unitetheunion welcomes the decision today by the government and the West Midlands Combined Authority to safeguard jobs and services.
The fact that a single operator could put nearly the entire West Midlands’ bus network at risk is lunacy.
It is yet another example of how bus companies across the country are failing bus workers, passengers and communities in their drive to extract profits at the expense of jobs and services.
This is why Unite will keep campaigning for bus services everywhere in the UK to be brought back under public ownership.
The current social care system is letting workers and people down. Instead of investing in people, successive governments have allowed private equity firms and shareholders to strip millions out of a service.
Join Unite's Campaign and Stand up for Social Care; https://t.co/9udvF9PyEo
Britain's social care system is a national disgrace. It has been turned into a cash cow for profiteers making money on the back of people’s suffering. Fixing social care will need a serious plan with real money that puts workers, pensioners and everyday people first, not the profiteers.
"We build boats here but we've also built our lives here." Now the RNLI are closing Fin's boatyard & expect workers to find new jobs on the Isle of Wight or relocate to a more expensive area without financial help.
"The behaviour of the RNLI throughout this dispute has been a complete disgrace. While our members face uncertainty about their futures, it has refused to engage meaningfully with the union. Expecting workers to relocate to a completely new area, without any financial renumeration or thought as to the impact on their personal lives is completely unfair" @UniteSharon
