Thank you @HopeVirgo for raising awareness in parliament about the appalling treatment (or lack of) of Eating Disorders in the U.K. @SalliMidgley @SimonBarnitt @SHSCFT
@gann_will I know you are the new psychiatrist at SEDS and I very much hope that this is how things will be going forwards. However, this is NOT how things have been in the last year & before.I was discharged earlier this year with a BMI below the MEED threshold & my health has not improved.
@gann_will This was without any warning, handover of care to my GP or any monitoring in place. My friend lost her life in May this year because she was abandoned by SEDS. I know there are many others too.
@gann_will I have been working with @SalliMidgley @SimonBarnitt to help improve things and I hope very much you will work closely with them too. Things need to drastically improve at SEDS. @HopeVirgo
@HopeVirgo I have recently been discharged as a SEED patient. The problem is my anorexia doesn’t want me to get better. It doesn’t want help. It makes us feel undeserving. So when services treat us this way it confirms to us that anorexia is the only thing we can trust.
This is horrifying! Things need to change. Autistic people deserve the right to have adapted care and treatment in appropriate settings. The NHS can certainly do better with this! No one deserves to suffer like this!!!
This has strong similarities to how Anorexia patients in Sheffield & SYorks are being treated. It is very worrying! @NHSSYICB@SHSC @SalliMidgley @SimonBarnitt
@MargeJenny@HopeVirgo@SHSCFT Patients are being given up on and are dying. It’s really unacceptable. I have been working with a lovely team at SHSC to try to help improve things but I don’t think the ICB appreciates the urgency.
@MargeJenny@HopeVirgo@SHSCFT My friend however was not so lucky and lost her battle in June as a result of no care. There is also no acute hospital in any of the SY hospitals which has a MEED lead (ED consultant) and there appears to still be no plans to implement this by the ICB.
@MargeJenny@HopeVirgo@SHSCFT Primarily Sheffield Eating Disorder Service-they are discharging very poorly, chronic patients (like myself) without any handover of care or monitoring set up. I’m lucky I have my mum to support me otherwise I don’t think I would be here still. 1/4
This is why the pathway to critical care for EDs in South Yorkshire needs to be straight to ED wards not a&e/amu @SHSCFT @SalliMidgley @SimonBarnitt@gann_will
