In 2007, in Rivers State, 14-year-old Gospel Uabari Kinanee left home to play football with his friends. Along the way, he was picked up by police officers and disappeared from his family's life.
For 18 years, his family searched tirelessly across Rivers State, desperately seeking answers about their missing son and brother.
Their search yielded nothing. Years later, his older brother received a shocking phone call informing him that Gospel had been locked up in prison all along.
Now, Gospel is 32 years old. Eighteen years of his life have been taken from him. His childhood is gone, educational opportunities lost.
The prime years of his life were stolen by the reckless actions of incompetence.
The Administration of Criminal Justice Act was enacted to prevent injustices like this. Yet, despite the law, cases of unlawful detention and abuse of process continue to occur.
This must stop.
We call on the government and relevant authorities to ensure the strict enforcement of Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
No citizen should lose nearly two decades of their life because of institutional negligence.

Today, we launched PPDC's Annual Report. A reflection of a year defined by purpose, progress, and an unwavering commitment to accountability.
Beyond the numbers and milestones, this report tells a story of collaboration, resilience, and the collective effort to strengthen transparency, improve public procurement, and empower citizens to demand better governance.
While we are proud of what has been accomplished, we remain conscious of the work that lies ahead. The challenges facing governance and development are significant, but so are the opportunities to drive lasting change.
I am grateful to our partners and stakeholders including @BudgITng Nigeria, @NhrcNigeria, CLEEN Foundation, Hope Behind Bars Africa, supporters, and the incredible Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) @PPDC_ng team whose commitment continues to transform ideas into impact.
The work continues.

Nigeria’s Rising Debt Burden: Politics or Development?
Nigeria is seeking a new $1.25bn World Bank loan aimed at supporting infrastructure, energy, agriculture, digital systems, and job creation. While the goals are development-focused, the timing is less than a year before the 2027 elections raising important questions about priorities and political incentives.
Nigeria’s public debt has surged from ₦12.6 trillion in 2015 to over ₦159 trillion in 2025. At the same time, debt servicing now consumes over 80–90% of government revenue, crowding out spending on education, health, and infrastructure.
With rising borrowing and limited evidence of strong development outcomes from past loans, concerns remain about whether new debt is driving real transformation or deepening a cycle of repayment pressure.

Nigeria’s classrooms are now crime scenes.
Since 2014, more than 2,496 students have been abducted in 92 school attacks across Nigeria.
From Chibok to Dapchi, Kankara, Kuriga, and now the latest attacks in Borno and Oyo, the pattern is painfully familiar.
And On May 15, 2026, suspected insurgents abducted children from a school in Askira-Uba, Borno State, just minutes after a military patrol left the area.
This is no longer a “Northern problem.” It is a national security emergency.
The deeper tragedy? Nigeria already has laws criminalising kidnapping as terrorism. The challenge is not legislation, it is enforcement.

Today marks the end of Open Government Partnership Week, celebrating 15 years of the global initiative and 10 years in Nigeria. It’s a timely reminder that government must remain transparent and accountable to the people in all its operations.
Yesterday at @PPDC_ng, we discussed the achievements of @ogpnigeria and PPDC’s ongoing efforts to keep government open and responsive to citizens. As citizens, we have the right to be actively engaged by the government that represents our interests.
Thank you to our guests Tijani Abdulkareem, Princess Hamman-Obels, Philip Mustapha Ahmed, and Garuda Godwin Sunday Esq. for honoring our invitation.

“Any day I’m on duty as a police officer and anyone film me, the officer that said you can film me will bury you, because I will clear everybody. Even if it’s a full bus of people”
— Self-acclaimed police officer
Today, we took the conversation to the streets.
As part of the Open Government Partnership Week, Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) @PPDC_ng joined fellow directors and partners Princess Hamman-Obels, Tijani Abdulkareem, Nwadishi Faith, Uchenna Arisukwu from across organisations to walk together literally and symbolically for transparency, accountability, and open governance.
Open government isn't just a policy conversation. It's a movement.
Thank you to every organisation that showed up and walked alongside us today. The work continues. @BudgITng@ogpnigeria@serdecnig@IRIADEV@ng_youthfund

Nigeria joined the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in July 2016 as the 70th country in the world.
10 years later, some States are still not committed.
This means they prefer to operate in opacity with zero political will to involve citizens in governance.
If your State is one of them, it’s time to act!
Write a letter or message to your State Governor today demanding that your State signs up to the OGP.
Transparency, accountability, and citizen participation must no longer be optional.

Such comments should not be dismissed lightly, considering the many Nigerians who have been victims of terrorist violence. Voicing support for terrorist groups weakens the fight against them. Sheik Gumi’s public statements on this matter merit careful review by the authorities. #enoughisenough
"Terr0rists are going nowhere. They are part of us, and we are part of them. We must learn to live together and should never become enemies with them."
~Terrorists Advocate, Sheikh Gumi
INEC registration resumes TODAY! If you’ve been waiting for a sign to get your PVC, this is it. We cannot demand accountability if we don't participate in the process.
Do not wait for the deadline rush. Head to an INEC centre today and secure your right to vote.

We’re bringing this video back because it’s a sentiment we still hear every day. It’s easy to feel like the system isn't listening, but staying away only makes it easier for things to stay exactly as they are.
With INEC registration back open this week, we’re pushing for more than just cards—we’re pushing for participation. If you haven’t registered, go today. If you already have your card, don't let it sit in a drawer while decisions about your life are being made by others.

Justice and Evidence Goes Hand in Hand.
In the law court our emotions do not stand a chance.
The judge has to work with the available evidence and facts.
Unfortunately evidences are lost to poor archival systems.
This is why Justice is delayed in Nigeria and Africa at large.
Very Archaic and evidence disappearing system that buries access to justice for everyone.
When the system is built to fail from the beginning, no matter the public outcry, sometimes justice may be denied.
@PPDC_ng is working to change this narrative and Ebonyi state Judiciary benefitted from our Court Administration and Case Management Project.
We want make justice accessible for All

Offtakers, Retailers, and different outlets contributes to demanding a longer lifespan for products that should stay for 3 days at most.
Producers do not care about human lives but only profit.
Poor regulatory oversight contributes largely to allowing products that do not meet human consumption to make it to our markets.
