CCJ's Women's Justice Commission kicked into gear with an inaugural meeting in NYC this week! Former U.S. Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch chairs the group, which includes Harris County @SheriffEd_HCSO and 14 other ideologically diverse members, led by Director Stephanie Akhter.
“The challenges faced by women all too often go unseen and unheard,”said Lynch.“We must do better to reduce the flow of women into the system, help them maintain relationships with children & families during incarceration, & provide the support they need to thrive after release.”
Today CCJ launched the Women’s Justice Commission, a national, nonpartisan panel led by former U.S. Atty. Gen. Loretta Lynch and featuring 15 other leaders plus Senior Adviser @OkFirstLady Sarah Stitt. Meet the commissioners: https://t.co/uqZ2RrpTOd
@JerritaP_OnTv@3onyourside Thank you for this coverage. Can you clarify if these infractions Judge Coffee is listing were from Abston's most recent (2-year) lockup or from his previous longer-term incarceration? i.e. has he continued to receive write-ups in his most recent stay?
@CharlaneOliver This! BUT- do they all have opponents? Either within their party (but moderate) at a primary or in the general in Nov? The sheer number of unopposed incumbents means just accepting this kind of legislation indefinitely until we get moderate intelligent folks to run against them.
Nebraska today unanimously passed legislation based on a recommendation from CCJ’s Veterans Justice Commission. If signed by Gov. Pillen, the bill would create alternatives to prosecution & incarceration for veterans, ensuring they get treatment for service-related conditions.
