Maybe the foreigners have it right. Maybe the eagle and the flyover and the canyon and the kindness of a stranger with car keys really are worth crossing an ocean to see. Maybe, watching them fall in love with the place we take for granted, we could fall in love with it again ourselves and decide to be a little more charitable to the neighbor God told us to love, even when we cannot stand how he votes.

A German visiting Auburn, Alabama, to watch Lionel Messi and Argentina play Iceland stopped at a Buc-ee's and ate brisket sandwiches on a stack of deer feeder corn.
A sentence never before uttered in all of human history.

Ryder’s passing has hit especially close to home for our Team Burrows family. Ryder was the brother-in-law of one of our own, and our hearts are aching alongside his loved ones.
From all accounts, Ryder was exactly the kind of young man who made a difference without even trying—full of life, loyal to his friends, proud to be a Red Raider and a Texan, and someone who showed up for the people around him.
Elisabeth and I are praying for Avery and Ryan, the entire Harrington family, and everyone who loved Ryder—the number appears to be countless. We ask that you lift them up as well.
We are heartbroken over the passing of Ryder Harrington.
From everything shared by those who knew him, Ryder was a light, a beloved son, brother, and friend, and passionate member of the Red Raider community, who brought energy, kindness, and joy everywhere he went. The impact he had on the people around him is clear.
We’re keeping the Harrington family, his friends, and the Texas Tech/Austin community in our thoughts during this unimaginable time.
A GoFundMe has been set up to support his family. The link is in our bio and down below for anyone who is able to help.

The pain we’ve seen across our region this weekend is heartbreaking and there are no good words to describe our grief and sadness for the loss of life, including the loss of children.
We share a deep fear of more loss, but we hold on to hope. We must. Hope matters. I am grateful for the professional staff across our region, county, and city who have been on the frontlines of the rescue and recovery efforts. They have our deepest thanks.
All City of Austin departments are reporting normal conditions with some having resources deployed or standing by to assist outside of Austin. Showers remain possible today through Tuesday. With the ground completely saturated, we have a Flash Flood Watch in effect until 7:00 PM tonight. There is no forecast of a heavy downpour and significant precipitation accumulation.
But we ask people to continue to stay weather aware and sign up for emergency notifications at https://t.co/KGT0UkjL1K to receive alerts.
I join Austinites in praying for those we’ve lost and for their families who grieve those losses. We also lift up in prayer those we hope are found alive. This is awful. We need each other and we need hope in this time of pain and sorrow.

Yesterday, the @LeadershipInst provided an excellent communications training session for legislative staff in the Texas House. A special thank you to @lawsuitreform , @CatParksTX , @JanieLopezForTX , my team, and everyone else who helped make this possible. Staff are a critical piece of how we get things done in the legislature, and I’m grateful to have hosted the first of many of these leadership sessions.
