few days ago - my barber told me he’d be leaving the business to go full time into something else

can swear I panicked for like 3-minutes thinking of where next i’d begin cutting my hair. in those 3-minutes, finding a barber as skilled as him felt impossible (not that it is). however;

there’s an opportunity in the potential labor crisis coming to Nigeria. (If it isn’t already here)

young people here flock to internet stuff & remote jobs - even children want to be “elon fathers” or do forex or crypto

nobody wants to learn tiling, or barbing or any other hand craft/labour type job. and for good reason:

you’re an electrician who can setup wiring for any building? - you get shamed.

you’re a bolt driver who makes millions monthly? - you’re seen as a caricature & called “common bolt driver” - there’s literally no dignity in labor here because the media pushes hard on glorifying unrealistic lifestyles & actively shaming anything else

so these types of jobs are dominated by older gen people. but the thing is;

what happens when they die? nobody wants to apprentice with that skilled electrician anymore - so no matter how good he is, he dies without passing on his wealth of experience

guys who can capture this niche pool of hand/labour type skills & forge that into some kind of service business will always win

everything from a cleaning service, to a plumbing service - to carpentry & upholstery - to interior decors - to electrical wiring, painting, tiling etc!

get solid guys in this field - tush them up on a salary - create a TikTok & turn their work days into relatable experiences distributed through content

you get free marketing + workers who might genuinely be happier doing jobs they would otherwise be shamed for. and happy workers do better jobs -> boosting your rep -> bringing more business

TLDR:

there’s bound to be demand for people with hand-skills in Nigeria because everything from media, to peers & school pushes an earning culture that is plain unrealistic

remember - Nigeria has a GDP by PPP of over $2.25 trillion dollars - that’s around crypto’s current marketcap

there’s money here - you just have to be ready to serve.

I hope this posts makes you see that crypto is just a means to an end & hopefully, when you make that big bank - you can draw from this to get a business idea that truly prints - especially something away from the conventional advice of investing in land or stocks 😅
