@acruiz@rossburton is only travel fair to spend 4 days away from family at a conference. Budget for travel but not to support your life. All that said, startups have much worse WLB than big established companies and open source. "At <unicorn> we are family" places.
@acruiz@rossburton I agree with you. My point is that most of the tech space is like this. "Hiring from the community" is code for "we want the people who workes on this in their nights/weekends for little remuneration". Many times that remuneration (1/2)
Multiple sources and Twitter Blind chats now saying that the company has begun to reach out to some people it laid off yesterday asking them to come back. Whoops! 🥴
@acruiz@rossburton I've witnessed too many open source projects that depend on unpaid maintainers that work long hours on their spare time. Not a dig on open source but on tech work culture in general. It's not sustainable, ageism is just a euphemism for negativity towards parenting/having a life.
@acruiz@rossburton I found that type of manager in that company you talk about. I agree you experienced a toxic environment but there's tons of variety. I'm saying this after 9 months on paternity leave this year and working an average 5 hours a day at the end of last year, yet got promoted.
10 years later, I suddenly realize I never actually announced that I once designed & coded my own no-BS music player in a few weeks with #Python, @GTKtoolkit 3, @GStreamer 1.x, and a wild @luisbg. I guess it's too late to ask the public to flatpak it 😅 https://t.co/yhTzU8WzGd

Am I the only one who feels that Rust+GTK4+libadwaitia is sparking a renaissance of native GNOME apps not seen before since the Python and Mono GTK2 days?
@acruiz They do have this https://t.co/lfEEBnBaXz, can they scale it for enterprise? The break things fast model clashes a bit with B2B reliability contracts.
@acruiz Do they have enough competency for the real estate, logistics, manufacturing, etc, required to have massive data centers built and connected across the globe?
