Thrilled to announce that starting in April, I will join @unifreiburg as junior professor Sinology/contemporary China. Looking forward to working with new students and colleagues on science fiction, new media, AI情 and much more!
We created an automated algorithm that quantifies the six #IFCN criteria for IED identification & accurately captures the likelihood that a waveform is epileptiform, in a user-friendly way👇. @zhdylovejj@BrandonWestove5@ClinicalNeuroph@EEGTalk

I always loved the playground for the kids with epilepsy in our institution, but now I even have proof that the playground is a great add-on to the clinic. 😀 absolutely great publication, Thanks from zurich, @FilaResearch
Very good read on the difficult differential between PNES& epilepsy. Great practical advise and discussion on the problems with suggestion and deception.
In my experience, early and correct diagnosis of PNES is crucial, so make the initial eeg workup as comprehensive as possible.
[Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES)] Whitehead et al.: “Ictal assessment during PNES is essential and can strengthen the diagnosis. Optimal formatting of the EEG report can improve communication between clinicians.” [Review]

Congrats @DimakopoulosVas - intriguing data on the mutual interaction between hippocampus and the cortex in working memory processing in humans. Great collaboration with @SarntheinJ and @pierre_vanmedge. Check out the full paper at @eLife
While epilepsy patients activated their phonological working memory, incoming information flowed from sensory cortex to hippocampus. During memory maintenance, information flow from hippocampus to auditory cortex indicated replay of the memory items. https://t.co/oud4PtxuxK
#ICCN2022 the international congress of clinical neurophysiology will be held in Geneva, Switzerland, in early September. How to make the best of your stay in Geneva? #askalocal

DBS reduces seizures while not impairing cognitive performance in LGS. Impressive work by @drlindadalic et al. in a difficult study cohort! The paper also makes the important point that many clinical scores are useless in the assessment of patients with cognitive disability.
Often overlooked but just as important - we report on the non-seizure outcomes following DBS in patients with LGS, as part of the ESTEL trial #LGS#DBS. https://t.co/HDWKCc9Gqu

Cool paper on ultra long term EEG in epilepsy. If the seizure focus is nearby the electrode, sensitity for seizure detection seems to be pretty good (probably way better than seizure diaries). Whats the clinical impact? Diagnostic? Seizure monitoring?
[Epilepsy] Remvig et al.: "Ultra long-term subcutaneous EEG offers a novel option for the recording of electrographic epileptic seizures in everyday life."

As part of the #SleepLoop project, ETH researchers have developed a mobile system that can be used at home and aims to promote #DeepSleep through auditory #BrainStimulation. For the first time, they have conducted a clinical trial. @lustenca@CommsMedicine https://t.co/7msenD2X0g
Interesting paper out today. Fabian Wolpert and @GalovicMarian show high seizure frequency in patients with brain metastasis. Gross total resection was the only factor to reduce seizure rate. Is epilepsy surgery underused in brain tumor patients?

@Brain1878@pierre_vanmedge Sound and convincing ideas. Also in adults this is increasingly discussed, e.g. early surgery in cortical vascular malformation prior to drug resistance. But what are the optimal 'carefully selected' cases? And how to test this approach? Early versus late intervention?
Recent paper from a great collaboration with @Unispital_USZ and @ETH_en on beta oscillations in the subthalamic nucleus from @OliverBichsel et al. Currently we study iEEG/DBS theta signals in epilepsy with @RafaPolania and Giovanna Aiello.
