One thing I realized more throughout @UNIETD is how connected the world is and how much access to info we have as educators. It's a blessing, but it needs to be used well. As the old saying goes, "too much of a good thing..." #unietd@maggda
I am thankful for #unietd and how the class has shown me new resources for the classroom and how to use them to best help in student learning. This class opened up new doors for my future classroom instruction.
I liked Ted Rose's TED Talk on "The Myth of Average". People are all unique and have different types of intelligence. I believe its our job as teachers to identify the strengths in our students and give them the resources and teaching that will let their gift develop. #unietd
@ericcurts Thanks for the resources! I agree, there is no substitute to reading in person to a child, but occasionally using videos can expose kids to a variety of reading styles and cool visuals.
@EricaMcCain8 I saw this a couple of months ago when a fake ALDI page promised free groceries to anyone who liked their page and shared their post. I saw a few of my friends share the link but I was suspicious and quickly discovered the scam. You gotta think before you share!
@MsKReynolds1 I love this quote. As society continues to change and evolve we must be willing to embrace change and learn new systems and technology. That is how our teaching stays fresh and relevant to our students.
@MissRachelle23 Totally agree. A few helpful critical thinking skills can help with this, including checking the sources cited, looking for logical fallacies and cross-checking with other sources to look for consistency. The sooner students learn that, the more ready they will be to be online.
Interactive learning requires more time and effort to match students with the right content for their skill level, but the richness of learning that can happen when applied correctly is worth the work. #unietd
I recall Trump talking about "fake news" a few years ago and thinking it was just a concept that a crazy guy came up with. However, I have seen so much misinformation over the last few years that its important to equip people with tools to be discerning and fact-checking. #unietd
Computational Thinking is important to develop in young students as the world we are living is becoming more and more complex. This type of thinking can not only be using in STEM, but in facing a variety of real world situations #unietd#CSforAll#csk8
My time overseas has given me a connection to a school in India, which I want to use for a global collaboration project when I teach, connecting my students in America to the students at this school in India, allowing my students to learn more about a different culture. #unietd
Remote Teaching has opened up new possibilities with the use of technology to aid student's learning, but we should not rely on remote teaching alone. As we saw in the 2020 school year when most teaching was remote, students' comprehension of core subjects dropped. #unietd
@Ford how come when I take in my 2015 Ford Focus for a transmission problem for which there is a recall, the dealer says You won't cover it because my car is over 100k miles??? That's some BS. I ain't gonna buy another Ford if that how you take care of your customers.
With so many important discussions and so much important information being distributed through the internet, students need to know how to best interact with one another online and set up good practices to protect themselves from hackers and other threats. #unietd
In order for students to become effective teachers in multicultural classrooms, they first need to be good learners, asking the right questions to minority parents, children and communities so they can meet the needs of that community. #unietd
As a creator who uses parts of other peoples' works, I find copyright law too complex, which can trip up creators and get them in legal trouble. There should be a simpler and more straightforward system that favors the smaller creators and not the larger companies. #unietd
The 7 elements of digital storytelling are parts of a story that are essential, yet rarely thought about until they are missing. I was watching a movie once with no soundtrack and thought, "it feels empty, something's missing" and then I realized there was no soundtrack. #unietd
I love how Bloom's Taxonomy identifies "creating" as the highest level of learning. As a creator of music, I see how I have to use multiple levels of learning, from remembering to applying to analyzing, as I work on a song. #unietd
UDLs allow students to learn in the ways that engage them the best. An example of this can be letting your students do a presentation on Dinosaurs using either a powerpoint, a video or a skit. #unietd
