The problem with coming up to fight bad governance in Uganda is that many people will look at it as your exclusive responsibility to do so. They’ll then sit aside and start theoretically analysing and criticising your efforts - what you are doing right or not. While they are affected by the same problems you are fighting, it is not their primary duty to do anything about the problems beyond playing like linesmen and disinterested scholars. Even under harsh political environments, they’ll call you weak and mock you for being beaten by a system you should be joining hands to face. That is how even those who try end up quietly withdrawing.

My attitude is to respect, support and encourage those who try to do what I can’t do but that I find necessary to be done. Let everyone add what they can, not just feeling entitled to being saved by another perfect person.

There is a dumb assumption that one is less intelligent simply because he/she is a musician, comedian, fine artist, actor/actress, … I call it dumb because it is held contrary to glaring counter evidence. Art is one of the fields of human activity that thrive on excellence of imagination and original use of one’s mind. The depth of brain that goes into a precise art piece or song that you would listen to over and over again, not just for pleasure but for the imaginative beauty, can’t be despised, except by a fool.

I have listened to several interviews, speeches and creations by creatives and, I must say, I often find more original use of brains there than in courts of law or parliament. Unlike in some fields, to be a creative, you are not simply expected to master some canons and regurgitate them. As an Artist/e, you MUST use your head to create new ideas. But an engineer, medical doctor, mathematician, lawyer, teacher can thrive without adding anything original to what is known.

There are indeed ‘creatives’ who simply copy others. Those hardly thrive, and are not worth the name. Not every ‘musician’ is brilliant. It’s by their outputs that we tell. What I’m saying though is that it is foolish to assume that one is less intelligent simply because he/she is a musician or comedian.

Ironically, such comments are thrown about even by people who have failed to make sense out of their own existence and who are struggling to use their own assumed intelligence to survive in the world! You find them dismissing an artist/e who has used his/her head to succeed in the same world; saying that the artist/e is not intelligent! If that is not foolishness, what is it?

Indeed, intelligence/talent/skill are a broad spectrum. One could be brilliant in one field and a disaster in another. One can be a great scholar or musician, but a terrible leader. One can be a great orator, but a disastrous manager. Therefore, we shouldn’t necessarily base on one’s training or gift in a particular area to assume that they’ll necessarily be great in another. We may end up promoting people from competency into incompetence. Similarly, we shouldn’t dismiss people simply because they come from a given area of talent - as to assume that they think less.

Let people be judged on merits of what they can actually do. Give them platforms to test their thinking and action abilities. Some people have multiple abilities (polymaths). Some can use their imaginative and emotional intelligence to fit in multiple spaces.

As we celebrate our Independence Day, let us reflect on the notable words of our former president. Immigration has been a major political, economical ,cultural and security issue not only in the USA but also in other parts of the world. Regardless of your stance, the former president’s insight is worth considering.

All dictatorships around the world begin like that. Such leaders begin well with great ideas that can fully change the face of the Nations but as time passesby, they are baptized and filled with greed for power,authority,money and respect. They begin killing,abdicating and oppressing their own people, corruption, nepotism and tribalism become the order of the day. That’s how great men like Gaddafi, Mugabe, Museveni,Taylor,Mobutu,Al-bashir, and many others ended up. I strongly believe that Traore and Kagame and the alike will end up the same. Throughout history, all dictatorships begin and end up in the same way around the globe.

The Democratic Republic of Congo must engage herself in bilateral mineral resource agreements that benefit her citizens. A lot of foreign mining companies especially from China have used the political instability in the Eastern part of the country to loot minerals, this is being done with the aid of corrupt unpatriotic government officials . Mother Congo is the richest country in the world in terms natural mineral resources and yet her citizenry continuos to languish in extreme poverty. The country faces a lot of challenges and if things are to change, the mining industry has to be the top priority of the country’s economic growth. All the mining aggreements must aim at “ DR Congo first” terms or else they must be terminated. Foreign countries can not benefit more from the local minerals than the Congolese.

@LarryMadowo @Winnie_Byanyima We had to close down USAID because it had lost its core mandate as to why it was formed in the first place. Democrats had begun using the platform to support their radical agenda around the globe at the expense of the American taxpayers. USAID will run again after 90 days.
