Halloween was born in Ireland ☘️🍂🎃

It owes it's name to the shortening of All Hallows Eve which was the day preceding all Saints Day, the product of the efforts of the Church to Christianise Samhain 🎃🍂

Samhain 🎃 🔥 is an ancient festival whose origins predate the Celts

As loved as it is, the Pumpkin imagery that we have today is new and it wasn't until the 2000s that Pumpkins even became available here at this time of year 🎃🍂

Before that our parents cut their hands to pieces carving turnips.

Long before the 1990s people in Ireland carved vegetables to deter the spirits that had crossed the veil between our world and the other one 👻 and dressed themselves in disguises or even covered themselves in black soot from the fire to avoid the attention of wandering fairies & ghosts 🎃🍂👻

@softskyhues Always the horrible toilet dreams. They layouts make no sense. Sometimes there are weird open plan showers in there too. The last one was a very unpleasant variation on the theme, where portapoties were in the middle of a coffee shop for some reason 🤢
