@DrPhiltill Thank you for sharing our work, @DrPhiltill. Your research has helped shape how the industry thinks about lunar regolith and surface infrastructure, so it means a great deal to see @LunarForgeSpace introduced to your community.
We’re just getting started. 🌒
Dr. Phil Metzger helped pioneer NASA’s Swamp Works and has spent decades advancing lunar surface technology.
Seeing him introduce @LunarForgeSpace to his community - and seeing the response - means an enormous amount.
Now we build. 🌒
A lunar construction company just came out of stealth mode: Lunar Forge.
Laser-sintering regolith into structural material, aimed at fission-reactor housing and shielding. Their first demo is targeted for 2027.

Lunar Forge is developing technology to turn lunar regolith into construction materials for Moon infrastructure, with an initial focus on building protective structures for future lunar nuclear reactors.
@payloadspace@NASA $2B for the reactor and spacecraft. Now imagine the cost of the structural infrastructure it needs on a surface - shielding, containment, thermal management, foundations.
That’s the part nobody’s pricing in. And it’s the part you can’t keep shipping from Earth.
NASA’s own studies identify in-situ manufacturing as the preferred approach. Build the shielding from lunar regolith, on the Moon.
It cuts the system mass in half. And the costs by 80-85%.
But here’s what nobody is talking about: the shielding and structural housing those reactors need weighs far more than the reactors themselves.
Radiation shielding alone for a single reactor: 8,600 - 20,580 kg.
NASA and DOE have committed to deploying fission reactors on the lunar surface by 2030. An executive order has made it a national priority.
Three prime contractor teams are building the reactors.
Lunar Forge is live 🔥 We just came out of stealth building the critical infrastructure fission surface power needs on the Moon. Reactors are funded. Landers are booked. We build what’s missing.

@payloadspace Proud to share that @PayloadSpace broke our story today. @LunarForgeSpace is building the infrastructure to manufacture reactor shielding and housing directly from lunar regolith - eliminating the biggest cost barrier to fission power on the lunar surface.
NASA has set out an aggressive plan to build a Moon base, equipped with power, comms, mobility—you name it. But not much attention has been paid to where all of that stuff is going to live.
Enter: Lunar Forge.
