I’ve been looking into @tokentunes and I think the interesting part is actually pretty simple.
Music is everywhere now. You can find almost anything on Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube within seconds.
Token Tunes is taking a different approach.
Instead of putting another NFT around music that already exists, the idea is to bring exclusive, unreleased music onchain.
Their plan is built around two phases.
The first is the Studio Pass, which becomes the foundation of the ecosystem. After the reveal, passes turn into Gold, Platinum or Diamond music plaques, with different benefits attached to each tier.
Then comes the part that really caught my attention.
Music Releases.
Token Tunes plans to release limited collections around individual songs from mainstream artists. Those songs are intended to be exclusive to the collectors who hold them rather than simply becoming another track on a streaming platform.
And each release can have its own artwork, supply, benefits and community.
So instead of buying an NFT and asking “what does this actually do?”
The music itself is part of the reason to own it.
That changes the relationship between artist and fan too.
You’re not just listening to a song.
You’re collecting a specific release, verifiably owning it onchain, and becoming part of the group of people who have access to that release.
I also like that the team is approaching this from both sides of the industry.
From my research, noticed founder @briangarrett has spent over 20 years in the music business and previously built Future Star, while also being involved in crypto since 2017 and NFTs since 2021.
Obviously, the real test will be the artists and releases they actually bring to the ecosystem.
But the concept is easy to understand:
Take something people already love, make it genuinely exclusive, and give fans a way to own a piece of that experience.
That’s what made me stop and look closer at Token Tunes. 🎵
